Kaori was born in Seattle, Washington in 1985, and spent her younger years in Tokyo. She began studying classical piano, and music composition from an early age at Yamaha Academy of Music. After graduating from Toho Girls High School (Coed) with a major in composition, and for the next year she had the opportunity to show her modeling talent in numerous fashion shows.
By 2005 she had traveled to the US and after completing a summer English program at Harvard University, she received vocal lessons at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in NYC. In January 2006, she was granted a scholarship and admitted to Berklee College of Music where she studied piano under Mr. John Arcaro, and vocals with Mr. Gabrielle Goodman and Mr. Janie Barnett. During this period she was very active in performing live both on and off campus.
Kaori received special recognition for being the first Japanese solo vocalist to take top honors during the highly acclaimed Berklee "Singer's Night" in May 2008. Also in May of that year, Kaori was awarded the Solo and Group Performance Award and graduated from Berklee College of Music.
On August 17, 2011, “Affectionately Yours?, Kaori’s debut EP was released, and also in the same year her single “Every Christmas? received a great deal of air play and appeared in a number of TV and radio programs.
Personally, Kaori enjoys eating yakiniku and ramen, and drinking beer. She also loves cats.
