Shooting Function

One-Touch Navigation & Joystick Control
The joystick makes the camera much easier to use, letting you control all basic operations with one hand. As you shoot, just watch the image in the monitor and follow the instruction guide. You can handle a number of operations quickly and easily, without even taking your eye off the subject.   Operation Icon Examples

Help Mode
Not sure what a certain icon means? Just switch on the Help mode and select the icon. It's explained for you on the LCD monitor. This makes it easier to learn the icons, and you spend less time reading the operating manual.
* Help mode explanation of TELE MACRO Detail.

Pro-Cinema Mode
Film-Like Effect
The movies you see at the cinema are generally filmed at 24 frames per second (fps). The GS500's Pro-Cinema mode shoots at a close 25 fps, so it can reproduce the same kind of motion you see in the movies.
Switching the GS500 to Pro-Cinema mode also activates the High-Picture-Quality Wide mode and Cine-Like mode (with special gamma curves). These help unleash the full high-picture-quality potential of the 3CCD camera system and let you capture images that can be viewed on a wide-screen TV with the entire angle of view intact.

Cine-like γ
Low-brightness areas are enhanced while high-brightness areas are suppressed, to prevent blackened or whitened sections of the image.
This mode lets you record film-like images.

Bass enhancer
The low-frequency microphone level can be adjusted to suit the preference of the user. Wind NR (noise reduction) is activated according to the preset level to effectively cut wind noise, for clear, dynamic bass sound.
* Bass enhancer level is set to +6dB automatically when Pro-Cinema Mode is used.

Manual Focus Ring
Positioned at the front of the lens barrel, the manual focus ring has a non-slip, sure-grip surface for easy operation and quick response when a photo opportunity pops up. It ensures professional-style operation and enhances creativity.

Easy ON / OFF
Easy On / Off reduces the time required for operating the camera. When you open the LCD, the power turns on. Shut it and the power turns off. Pull out the viewfinder and the power turns on. Put it back and the power turns off.

1.7 sec. Quick Start
This Quick Start mode* helps shoot videos on the spur of the moment. This mode lets you shoot those not-to-be-missed scenes by turning on the power just 1.7 sec. from the time the LCD is opened.

* This mode can be selected from the menu.

Anti Ground Shooting
The O.I.S. linear motor system can detect when the camera is in an unusual shooting position - such as when you've inadvertently left it on in recording mode. In these cases, the camera automatically stops recording, saving both battery power and tape.

*Set to OFF when shipped from the factory. To turn Anti Ground Shooting ON, the setting must be made on the menu screen.

Colour Night View / 0 Lux Colour Night View
0 Lux Colour Night View with Light Panel for shooting in total darkness.

Designed for shooting in total darkness, this function shoots four frames per second using the LCD monitor as a light source. Pictures are clear and sharp thanks to the hand-shake compensation provided by the O.I.S. Light from the LCD is gentle and easy on the eyes, so you can snap shots of sleeping children without waking them up.

Colour Night View for shooting in dim light.

Colour Night View gives you smoothly flowing pictures even in dark places, where it's normally difficult to capture good shots.
