Futuristic, Flat Design with LED Cursor Buttons

The new DMC-FP8 joins the LUMIX lineup. Its flat body and compact size let it fit nicely into small handbags. Built of high-quality aluminum, the flat body provides an attractive design on the camera's rear surface. A cool hairline panel in the center of the camera adds an exquisite accent for a striking overall appearance. The DMC-FP8 also brings an especially wide color variation to the series, with silver, black, pink, red, gold, green, violet, and blue to choose from*. The sleek design makes you want to take it with you wherever you go, like a fashion accessory. And the blue LED cursor buttons add elegant brilliance to the design each time they're pressed, especially during nighttime shooting.

28mm Wide-angle 4.6x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens

The DMC-FP8 features a 28mm wide-angle* 4.6x optional zoom f/3.3-5.9 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (35mm film camera equivalent: 28-128mm). This lens system features the folded optics technology realized by the inclusion of a prism. It comprises 10 elements in 8 groups, with 1 ED (Extra Low Dispersion) lens and 5 aspherical lenses / 6 aspherical surfaces to achieve high optical performance while maintaining compactness. Naturally, the lens meets LEICA's stringent standards. This high-quality lens combines high brightness and minimal distortion to capture 28mm wide-angle photos* with outstanding, corner-to-corner detail.
* Converted to standard 35mm film camera equivalent, at the maximum wide position.
28mm Wide-angle Lens

The 28mm wide-angle lens* lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective, even from short distances.
* Converted to standard 35mm film camera equivalent, at the maximum wide position.
4.6x Optical Zoom /
Up to 9.1x Extra Optical Zoom
The DMC-FP8 is equipped with a 4.6x optical zoom lens (35mm film camera equivalent: 28-128mm). The Extra Optical Zoom function*1 uses the center part of the CCD to extend this 4.6x zoom ratio to powerful 9.1x zoom (35mm film camera equivalent: 250mm) at a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. Adding the Extra Optical Zoom to the 4x digital zoom*2 extends the total zooming power to a maximum of 36.4x.
*1 At a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. In the U.S.A. market, the Extra Optical Zoom is called the Extended Optical Zoom.
*2 As digital magnification increases, resolution significantly decreases.
12.1-megapixel High-resolution CCD

The DMC-FP8 features a 1/2.33-inch CCD with effective 12.1-megapixel high-resolution.

*1 The speed of auto focusing and the time for start-up vary depending on the shooting condition.
*2 The DMC-TS1(FT1).
The DMC-FP8 has a shorter start-up time and an ultra high-speed AF that's about twice as fast as our previous AF systems*2. This speedy response lets you snap off shots almost immediately. It makes shooting more comfortable, too, when trying to capture the quick movements of active children and pets.
Ultra High-speed AF
The ultra high-speed AF, which is about twice as fast as our previous AF systems*, has a maximum speed of approx. 0.25 second at the wide-angle setting and approx. 0.26 second at the telephoto setting. It includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance for a level of shooting that you've never experienced before. You can quickly get moving subjects in focus, such as when you're shooting sports scenes.

* The DMC-TS1(FT1), approx. 0.46 second at the wide-angle setting, approx. 0.48 second at the telephoto setting. Vary depending on the shooting condition.
Fast Start-up Time
The previous linear processing program has been replaced with parallel processing, to achieve an ultra high-speed start-up of approx. 0.95 second*.
* Vary depending on the shooting condition.
Release Time Lag
The shutter release time lag is as short as approx. 0.006 second, making it easy to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities.
Venus Engine V

The image-processing engine, Venus Engine V, uses advanced signal processing to give you beautiful images even when the sensitivity is high. Multi-task signal processing is employed for all images to enable high-speed, high-performance shooting. Venus Engine V, with even greater accurate detection system, makes it possible to detect specific person's face in new Face Recognition function. Along with its extremely high performance, Venus Engine V reduces power consumption thanks to a number of energy efficiency improvements.
Higher Image Quality with Advanced Signal Processing
Luminance noise and chromatic noise are reduced separately in a Panasonic's advanced noise reduction system. In addition, the Venus Engine V enhances this detection by effectively reducing highly noticeable low-frequency chromatic noise in advance, while delicately applying noise reduction (NR) processing to detailed areas to prevent the color bleeding that often happens when NR is used. As a result, beautiful images with minimal noise can be reproduced all the way up to ISO 1600 high sensitivity at full resolution while color noise is less noticeable in shadows and other dark areas even when shooting with low sensitivity.
Low Energy Consumption
– Around 380 Shots on a Single Battery Charge

Despite the significantly increased performance of the camera, the Venus Engine V consumes only 84% of the power utilized by the Venus Engine IV. This improvement works together with an efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which became much smaller to fit into slimmer camera bodies, to achieve an extended battery life of approx. 380 pictures on a single charge*.
* Based on the CIPA standard.
* ID–Security Li-ion Battery
The DMC-FP8 comes with a function to check whether the battery and unit can be safely used together. •Batteries made by other companies which have been certified by Panasonic may be used with these units, but we offer no guarantee as to the quality, performance or safety of such batteries. •Exercise care when purchasing batteries. Many fake or imitation batteries have been found among those sold at unusually low prices and those which customers cannot check for themselves before purchasing. •Please confirm the latest information about batteries on the following website.

MEGA Burst Consecutive Shooting in Full Resolution
The DMC-FP8 lets you snap off consecutive shots at approx. 2.3 frames per second*1 in full resolution. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like the best and delete the rest. You can also select High-speed Burst Mode*2 or Flash Burst Mode*2 from Scene Mode.

•The burst speed values given above apply when the shutter speed is 1/60 or faster and when the flash is not activated. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size and battery life. The burst speed is constant regardless of the transfer speed of the card.

•The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size and battery life.
*1 Maximum of 5 images in Standard mode and 3 images in Fine mode.
*2 In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.
* Availability of models and colors may differ depending on the country.
