The following five detection functions and Continuous AF team up to give you beautiful photos every time in iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode.

Shake Detection - Advanced MEGA O.I.S.
![]()
The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer)* in the DMC-TZ50 compensates for the blurring caused by hand-shake. It is now featured on the entire LUMIX range, and is highly popular with users around the world. Even slight hand-shake movement is accurately detected by a sampling frequency of 4,000 times per second, and compensated to produce sharp, clear images. And, it can even detect and separate hand-shake from other types of camera movement to raise both the detection precision and corrective effect. It also works for zooming and macro shots, which are especially susceptible to hand-shake, and lets you shoot in dimly lit rooms or evening illumination, without a flash, to preserve the mood. The new Venus Engine IV in the DMC-TZ50 controls the shifting of the blur-stopping lens with even greater precision to further increase the detection accuracy and correction effect of MEGA O.I.S. In short, it lets anybody take beautiful, blur-free shots with ease.
* MEGA O.I.S. is automatically turned on in iA Mode and can be turned on or off in Normal Picture Mode or some Scene Modes.

Motion Detection - Advanced Intelligent ISO Control
![]()

The Intelligent ISO Control function* in the DMC-TZ50, made possible by the Venus Engine IV, detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions. When it detects subject motion, it automatically raises the ISO setting and increases the shutter speed to prevent motion blur. On the other hand, when the subject is still and no movement is detected, it takes beautifully natural photos with a low ISO setting. The new Venus Engine IV in the DMC-TZ50 expands the detectable range to further increase the detection accuracy and correction effect.
The ISO sensitivity raises up to ISO 800 in iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode while you can set its limit to ISO400, ISO 800 or ISO 1600 in Normal Picture Mode. Intelligent ISO Control in the DMC-TZ50 gives you stunning images with ease because there is no need for complicated settings.

*When ISO in AUTO is used, motion detection is not performed and the brightness is detected to automatically raise the sensitivity to a maximum of ISO 400.
Face Detection - Face Detection AF/AE

* Face Detection function is automatically turned on in iA Mode and can be turned on or off in Normal Picture Mode or some Scene Modes.
The Face Detection function* in the DMC-TZ50 detects faces for up to 15 people in the frame and simultaneously and automatically optimizes the focus and exposure settings. It prevents the blurry faces that happen when the camera focuses on something in front of or behind the subject, and keeps faces from appearing dark when shooting indoors or against the light source. The DMC-TZ50 does all of this automatically. Once the camera detects a face, Face Tracking follows it even when the subject moves around. This makes it easy to capture the person's face quickly if he or she is moving. The DMC-TZ50 is also newly equipped with digital red-eye correction. The camera takes care of the red-eye effect that often happens when shooting with a flash, to ensure attractive facial expression always.
Scene Detection - Intelligent Scene Selector
When the camera's in iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector automatically sets the Scene Mode to either Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery*. The camera judges it from the various detection results such as focusing distance, inclusion of human face and brightness level of the circumstance**. You are free from annoying settings every time scene changes when taking pictures with these most frequently used Scene Modes to get beautiful results even before you know it.
Most Frequently Used Scene Modes

* In iA Mode, Night Portrait is not identified when the flash is turned off, and Night Scenery is not identified when the flash is set to Auto.
** With some subject and shooting conditions, it is just not possible to judge the best shooting details. When this happens, it is recommended that you shoot with the Scene Mode that best suits your purpose.
Light Detection – Intelligent Exposure
![]()
A newly incorporated Intelligent Exposure function* in the DMC-TZ50 increases the exposure only in under-exposed areas by detecting the brightness level part-by-part in the picture. If the background includes the sky, which tends to be easily washed out, the camera automatically adjusts the aperture and shutter speed to keep the setting slightly under-exposed to prevent wash-out while brightening the darkened area by increasing the ISO only in that area. If the background of an indoor portrait receives insufficient lighting from a flash and becomes dark, the ISO sensitivity is raised in only the low-lit area to make it brighter without causing graininess in the subject's face.
* Intelligent Exposure function is automatically turned on in iA Mode and can be turned on or off in Normal Picture Mode.

Continuous AF

The DMC-TZ50 features continuous AF*. This function automatically and continuously focuses on your subject, providing a clear, sharp focus even for moving subjects**. This is ideal for capturing images of animals in nature and sports or other events, and is equally handy for taking photos of children and pets. It makes sure that pictures of sudden shooting opportunities won't be out of focus or blurry.
* Continuous AF is automatically turned on in iA Mode and can be turned on or off in Normal Picture Mode.
** The focus speed may be slower in dark surroundings.
*The DMC-TZ50 is available in the U.S. and Japan.
Outside of the U.S., the DMC-TZ50 is sold with a different Wi-Fi carrier and a different photo sharing service.
