On the other side of the world, meanwhile, Panasonic was
busily establishing itself as the world’s leading maker
of high-precision aspherical lenses.
The company also leads the industry in aspherical glass-mold
lens manufacturing technologies, which make it possible to
both downsize the lens and improve its performance, and in
dual-sided concave lenses. Panasonic also developed sub-micron–precision
technologies and mass-production technologies that meshed
perfectly with Leica Camera AG’s needs.

Normally, a portion of the spherical front surface of a lens contains aberrations. Lens designers, as they strove to create a perfectly curved lens face, ultimately created a non-spherical or aspherical lens.

There are presently five lenses for LUMIX compact cameras – the LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMILUX, LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON, LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT, LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT, and LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR – all featuring Leica lens quality. Although small in size, they have a large, bright aperture, meeting the stringent quality standards established by Leica.
Minimal spherical distortion
Wide-angle shots taken with most lenses tend to have distortion near the edges. Not so with the Leica DC lens, which is engineered to meet Leica Camera AG’s lofty standards. With its superb image rendering, this lens captures buildings and other objects with remarkable clarity and beauty.
Sharp resolution all the way to the edges
“Resolution” is an indication of how accurately a single thin line can be . With the Leica lens, even an individual stand of hair is rendered with astonishing clarity and detail.

Beautiful Images Even with Backlighting
An advanced multi-coating technology minimizes ghosts and flare even when shooting with backlighting.
