The Ultimate Compact: New DMC-ZS3(DMC-TZ7)
World's Smallest* Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom
featuring 25mm Ultra-Wide-Angle Lens**
and AVCHD Lite Motion Picture Recording
*As of 27 January, 2009 **35mm film camera equivalent: 25-300mm
Panasonic today introduced the Lumix DMC-ZS3 as the newest member of its acclaimed TZ series. With 10.1-megapixel, a 25mm ultra-wide-angle lens and 12x optical zoom, the ZS3 is a worthy addition to a series of cameras that have won worldwide popularity for packing powerful zoom lenses into compact bodies.
The ZS3 is a powerhouse performer with enormous versatility. It features a new LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens with 10.1-megapixel resolution. Compared with previous models, it extends the power of the optical zoom from 10x to 12x and expands the wide-angle lens from 28mm to an ultra-wide 25mm while reducing both size and weight of the body, giving it the range for virtually all shooting situations.
The DMC-ZS3 is the world's first digital camera that records motion image in AVCHD Lite. The AVCHD Lite realizes long time recording of high-definition motion image. The well-considered operational command layout including an independent movie recording button makes the DMC-ZS3 a true hybrid -- a single model that performs admirably as both camera and camcorder while achieving smooth, easy operation in both modes.
Panasonic's Intelligent Auto mode -- a hallmark of Lumix cameras -- now includes Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces from previous shots. When a familiar face appears in the frame, the camera will prioritize focus and exposure to capture it beautifully. This clever function makes it easy to get sharp and clear photos of loved ones in a group of people. iA mode is also available in Movie Mode. It automatically selects the most suitable Scene mode and helps to correct handshake, focus and brightness problems - making iA mode your one-stop solution to capture beautiful still and motion images.
The adoption of AVCHD Lite lets users enjoy watching not only still images but also HD movies just inserting the SDHC/SD Memory Card from the camera in the VIERA Image Viewer(Built-in SDHC/SD Memory Card slot) on a VIERA HDTV to start playback*. Alternatively, simply connect the camera via an optional mini-HDMI cable to a VIERA Link-equipped TV and use the TV's remote control to run slideshows including both still and motion images in the timeline. The ZS3 features a 3-inch, high resolution 460,000-dot Intelligent LCD with a wide viewing angle, improving visibility during recording and playback.
Despite its superior lens specifications and functionality, the ZS3 is smaller and lighter than its predecessors, making it easier to bring with you on your travels. Enjoy stunning photos and HD videos from 25mm wide-angle to 12x telephoto - the ZS3 is your ideal travel partner delivering ultimate performance in a pocket-sized body.
*Turn Face Recognition item ON and resister the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance. Refer to back page for detail.

1. 25mm Ultra-Wide-Angle LEICA DC Lens with 12x Optical Zoom for Ultimate Versatility in Both Still and Motion Image Shooting

The ZS3 features a high-quality LEICA DC VARIO ELMAR 25mm ultra-wide-angle lens with a 12x optical zoom. A lens like this, with a range from 25mm to 300mm in 35mm film equivalence, is almost inconceivable in such a small, lightweight camera. Comprising 10 elements in 8 groups, including 2 ED lenses and 2 aspherical lenses with 3 aspherical surfaces, and utilizing new lens material in its design, this advanced lens unit realizes the outstandingly slim and compact body while passing Leica's stringent standards to deliver exceptional optical performance. The Extra Optical Zoom function that extends zoom power to 21.4x (at 3-megapixel resolution) by using the center part of the large CCD to bring subjects even closer without deteriorating the image quality.
The ZS3 has a 12-megapixel CCD and shoots with up to 10-megapixel resolution. This is because the CCD on the ZS3 is multi-aspect that can reproduce images shot with the lens set from 25mm to 300mm in any of three aspect ratios - 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9 - so you can always capture dynamic, richly expressive shots with a wide perspective. The Multi Aspect mode lets you to take an image in all three aspect ratios simultaneously then choose the one that best suits your scene after shooting.

2. Take Motion Picture Recording to the Next-Level with New Generation AVCHD Lite and iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode

In addition to Motion JPEG images, the ZS3 can record high-definition motion picture in AVCHD Lite. It features almost doubling the recording time in HD quality compared with the conventional Motion JPEG format. The ZS3 also features Dolby Digital Stereo Creator to record high quality audio, so you can match the beautiful motion images with outstanding stereo sound.
Now on the ZS3, the popular iA (Intelligent Auto) is also available in motion image recording. Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) helps prevent handshake when using high-powered zoom. Face Detection automatically detects a face in the frame and adjusts focus, exposure, contrast, and skin complexion on it so it always turns out beautifully. Intelligent Exposure continually checks the ambient light level and adjusts the exposure setting as conditions change to prevent blown highlights and blocked shadows. And Intelligent Scene Selector automatically switches between Normal, Portrait, Macro, Scenery, and Low Light modes according to the situation to optimize visual quality.
Motion image recording can be started by pressing a dedicated button on the camera's back panel -- an extremely quick, convenient way to start motion image recording. Most of the camera's settings will be carried over when switched to motion picture recording. The powerful 12x optical zoom is available in movie recording, too. A Wind Cut function is also available to block out most of the noise from background wind. The ZS3 also provides a Color mode and carries over 17 different scene modes from photo scene modes in movie recording. In AVCHD Lite recording, you can select from three levels of motion image quality: SH (17 Mbps), H (13 Mbps) and L (9 Mbps).
Still or motion images recorded in AVCHD Lite on SD Memory Cards are easy to view on a Panasonic VIERA TV. Simply insert the card into the VIERA Image Viewer (SDHC/SD Memory Card slot) on VIERA TV or DIGA Blu-ray Disc Player to playback your contents. Alternatively, you can use an optional mini HDMI cable to output the still and motion images you took from the ZS3 directly to the TV for VIERA Link. You can take maximum advantage of Lumix camera's playback functions including the slideshow in which both still and motion images integrated in the timeline, category playback according to the scene mode you used or calendar display and so on. All control is possible using only the TV's remote control.
In addition, with the included software PHOTOfunSTUDIO HD Edition, it is easy to view and edit your recorded contents. You may also choose to upload your videos to YouTube or burn them to a DVD disc for archiving.
*When you set the picture quality to HD, WVGA or VGA, we recommend using a high-speed card with "10MB/s" or greater displayed on the package.
*Motion pictures can be recorded continuously for up to 15 minutes in some countries.
*Continuous recording exceeding 2GB is not possible when recording motion JPEG. Remaining time for continuous recording is displayed on the screen.
*AVCHD Lite motion images recorded onto an SD Memory Card or a DVD disc cannot be played from a device that does not support the AVCHD standard.

3. Newly Added Face Recognition Makes the iA (Intelligent Auto) Further Evolved

With the ZS3, taking great photos is that easy. Panasonic incorporated the Intelligent Auto mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of misshots. This mode is now further advanced with the inclusion of Face Recognition and AF Tracking features for ZS3. In iA mode the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose shots and capture moments. Just press aim, and shoot.
The ZS3 features Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces. When a familiar face is recorded several times, the camera will prompt you to register the face. Once complete, if the familiar face appears into your frame again, the camera will display the name you specified for that person and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and in sharp focus. During registration, you can change the icon that indicates when the registered subject is in focus. You can also specify the age of the registered subject and have both the name and the age of the subject stamped onto your photos. When babies under 3 years-old are registered, the camera will automatically switch to Baby mode if the baby appears into the frame. In playback, you can choose to display only photos that contain a specific registered face using Category Playback. You can also view image slideshows of only a selected person. Face recognition makes sorting archiving incredibly easy. This advanced face detection system also digitally corrects unwanted red-eye during recording.
With AF Tracking, the ZS3 can lock onto any subject and keep it in focus even if it moves - making it easy to get beautiful, clear shots when a great photo opportunity suddenly arises. Simply aim, lock, and shoot.
In addition to the advanced functions mentioned above, the iA mode inherits fundamental functions users need in a good digital still camera. These include MEGA O.I.S., which helps prevent blurring from hand-shake, and Intelligent ISO Control, which reduces motion blur by adjusting the ISO sensitivity if the subject moves as the shot is taken. The MEGA O.I.S. now has an AUTO mode to select between the conventional Mode 1 and 2 depending on which mode best suits the zoom ratio being used. Intelligent Exposure optimizes the exposure for each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights and helping ensure that gradation and details are reproduced beautifully. It now features an automatic backlight compensation function that activates whenever the camera detects the subject is in backlight. Intelligent Scene Selector automatically detects the five most common shooting situations - Portrait, Night Portrait, Scenery, Night Scenery and Macro - and switches to the appropriate Scene mode.
The Quick AF system helps keep focus on the subject while the camera is in recording mode even before pressing the shutter button halfway. This improves the result out of a shutter chance because the focus is always near the subject and AF time is minimized. The number of metering points has also been increased from the previous 9 points to a more detailed 11 points.
The user can activate all of these useful, convenient shooting-assist functions by simply selecting iA mode.
*Turn Face Recognition item ON and resister the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance. Refer to back page for detail.

4. Venus Engine HD Assures High Picture Quality for Both Still and Motion Picture

The high-speed, high-performance Venus Engine HD has been re-engineered to support the recording of beautiful, high-definition motion images in AVCHD Lite. With its twin CPUs, Venus Engine HD boasts approx. 2.4x processing capability, greatly improving the speed of camera operations.
This high performance LSI elevates the artificial intelligence of the camera by introducing new circuitry making it possible to "recognize" human faces individually. It also supports high definition output through HDMI.
In image processing, luminance noise and chromatic noise are reduced separately before and after signal processing. This is further refined by separating noise two-dimensionally into high-frequency and low-frequency noise. The circuits then effectively reduce only the low-frequency noise to minimize the unwanted noise and help produce beautiful, sharp still and motion images.
This multi-task image-processing engine has a super-fast response time. The shutter release time lag is as short as approx. 0.006 seconds, making it easy to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities. In burst shooting mode, the ZS3 can snap approx. 2.3 shots per second at 10.1-megapixel full resolution*1. In High-speed Burst shooting mode, it fires off an incredible approx. 10 shots per second*2. Unlimited consecutive shooting is also available to let you shoot until the memory card is full*3. Newly added Flash Burst mode makes it possible to take consecutive shots with continuous emissions of the flash*4.
Despite its outstanding performance, the high performance engine is also more energy efficient compared with the conventional Venus Engine IV, extending the battery life up to 300 shots (CIPA) per a single charge.
*1 Max. 5 images in standard mode / 3 images in fine mode.
*2 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording. (10fps in Speed Priority mode / 6fps in Image Priority mode)
*3 The consecutive shooting speed varies with the memory card, image size, and image compression mode. The number of shots depends on the memory card size, battery life, image size and image compression mode.
*4 Max. 5 images. In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.

5. A 3.0-inch, Super High Resolution 460,000-dot LCD for Easy Playback

The ZS3 is equipped with a 3.0-inch, 460,000-dot Intelligent LCD with super high resolution and a wide viewing angle. The screen brightness automatically adjusts in 11 steps as the surrounding brightness level changes, ensuring easy visibility at all times. The big screen reflects fine details, making it easy to check the focus before shooting. It also serves as a small photo and video viewer, allowing the user and friends to enjoy viewing the still and motion images together.
Menus are now cleaner and easier to navigate, even for seniors, thanks to the new "Display Size" option. Thanks to the Venus Engine HD, smooth image playback at very high speeds is now available approx. 17x faster for thumbnail and approx. 4x for single image even the image resolution is as high as 12.1-megapixel.
The ZS3 offers a Mode Playback feature which allows you to choose playing back 'only still images', 'only motion images', or 'both'. When choosing to playback 'only motion images', you can even select to playback AVCHD Lite and Motion JPEG videos separately. Images and videos can be played back together with an attractive seamless effect and background music in the new Slideshow Mode. Using an optional mini HDMI cable, you share your slideshows in astounding HD video and audio quality on your HDTV with your family and friends.

6. Other Versatile Functions Adding to the Photographic Enjoyment

Lumix functions continue to evolve. Scene modes, which are optimized for a variety of still-image shooting situations, are now available for motion images as well. Thanks to a rich variety of 27 scene modes for still image and 17 for motion image (Portrait, Soft Skin, Transform, Self portrait, Scenery, Low light, Food, Party, Candle light, Sunset, Beach, Snow, Aerial, High Sensitivity, Pin hole, Film grain and Underwater), capturing beautiful videos is effortless with the ZS3.
The new scene mode for shooting still images includes the Panorama Assist mode, which allows you to create powerful panoramic images - both vertically and horizontally. Simply align your shots according to a guide which overlaps the frame when you shoot, then use the included Panorama Maker software to create your panorama images.
The mode dial comes with two My Scene settings. Users can assign a specific scene mode to each setting and switch instantly between modes when desired.
The minimum shooting distance has been shortened to 3 cm on the ZS3. With the new Macro Zoom function, the user can pull subjects even closer than the closest point possible with the wide-angle setting by using 3x digital zoom, and capture dramatic close-ups.

*These are standard times taken at a temperature of 23゜C (73.4゜F) and a humidity of 50%. The time available for recording varies depending on the environment, the interval between recordings, and the manner of use. Actual recordable time is the time available for recording when repeating actions such as switching the power supply [ON]/[OFF], starting/stopping recording, zoom operation etc. For Europe, motion pictures can be recorded continuously for up to 29 minutes 59 seconds. The maximum continuous recording time (up to 29 minutes 59 seconds) is displayed on the screen. Motion pictures and pictures with audio taken with the DMC-ZS3(TZ7) may not always be able to be played back with cameras by other manufacturers. Playback may also not be possible with certain Panasonic digital cameras (LUMIX) launched before December 2008, and some cameras launched in 2009 (FS, LS Series). A max. of approx. 2 GB of continuous motion picture can be recorded in Motion JPEG. In AVCHD Lite, recording may be continued until the card is full.

**Based on the CIPA standard. Shooting conditions: 23°C with 50% humidity; LCD on; using SD Memory Card; starting to shoot 30 seconds after turning on the power; shooting once every 30 seconds with the flash in full operation for every other shot; changing the zoom setting from telephoto to wide, or wide to telephoto, for each shot; and temporarily turning the power off after each 10 shots (long enough to lower the battery temperature).
The number of recordable pictures decreases in Auto Power LCD mode or Power LCD mode.

DMC-TS1 (DMC-FT1)
TOUGH Camera for Active Outdoor Photography:
New DMC-TS1(DMC-FT1)
The World's First Waterproof, Shockproof, Dustproof Camera
AVCHD Lite Motion Image Recording*
*As of 27 January, 2009
Panasonic today introduced the Lumix DMC-TS1, a new concept camera geared for active outdoor photography. The TS1 is shockproof, waterproof and dustproof in design with the capability to record high-definition movie in AVCHD Lite. Featuring a 28mm wide angle lens, 4.6x optical zoom and iA (Intelligent Auto) mode, this versatile camera lets you capture your moments no matter the intended shooting terrain.
Tested with the same standards used to assess Panasonic's acclaimed TOUGHBOOK series computers, the TS1 is waterproof to a depth of 3.0m, shockproof from falls up to 1.5m, and dust-proof - so you take this camera to places thought not possible before.
The TS1 features a new 28mm wide-angle, 4.6x optical zoom LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens with 12.1-megapixel resolution. Starting at the 28mm wide angle, and zooming up to a useful 128mm in telephoto, this camera gives you the flexibility for virtually all shooting scenes - especially underwater, where movement is often restricted and the angle of view becomes important for composing your shots.
HD motion-image recording is available in AVCHD Lite allowing longer video recordings with breathtaking HD visual and audio quality, making it a true hybrid -- a single model that performs admirably as both camera and camcorder while achieving smooth, easy operation in both modes.
Panasonic's Intelligent Auto mode -- a hallmark of Lumix cameras - is now also available in movie recording. It automatically selects the most suitable Scene mode and helps to correct handshake, focus and brightness problems - making iA mode your one-stop solution to capturing beautiful still and motion images. It features Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces from previous shots. When a familiar face appears in the frame, the camera will prioritize focus and exposure to capture it beautifully. This clever function makes it easy to get sharp and clear photos of loved ones in a group of people.
Alternatively, simply connect the camera via an optional mini HDMI cable to a VIERA Link-equipped TV and use the TV's remote control to run slideshows including both still and motion images in the timeline. The TS1 features a 2.7-inch, 230,000-dot Intelligent LCD with a wide viewing angle, improving visibility during recording and playback by automatic brightness control according to the situation.
Enjoy stunning photos and HD videos with tremendous ease on land and under sea - the TS1 is the ideal partner for your outdoor adventures.
*Turn Face Recognition item ON and resister the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance. Refer to back page for detail.
*The "AVCHD" is a high definition (HD) digital video recording / playback format jointly established by Panasonic Corporation and Sony Corporation. The "AVCHD Lite" is a subset of the "AVCHD format" for HD digital video cameras with HD video recording restricted to 720P. The new "AVCHD Lite" Logo and the "AVCHD Lite" License are restricted to devices within the AVCHD Video Camera category. Digital cameras have been added to the AVCHD Video Camera category.

1. 3m Waterproof, 1.5m Shockproof and Dustproof -- A Perfect Gear for Active Outdoor Shooting

The TS1 is drop proof from a height up to 1.5m in accordance with the "MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock" test standard. In addition to reinforcing the exterior of the camera with shock-resistant material, the TS1 uses folded optics to prevent its lens unit from taking damage when dropped during operation. The lens unit is further protected by a supplementary damper to absorb the force from shock impact.
The TS1 is waterproof to a depth of 3m and dustproof equivalent to the "IP58" standard. Thanks to rubber padding and reinforced glass and carbon resins inside the camera, the TS1 features an airtight body protected against water immersion, dust and sand. TS1's LCD panel is also deliberately thickened for protection against pressure, allowing the display to operate with clear visibility even underwater.
The TS1 is an extremely versatile camera that you can take with you wherever the action calls. Swim along with tropical fish and capture shots of a beautiful coral reef, or take recordings of your friend around a camp fire. TS1 is an ideal camera to bring with you to the beach or on hiking trips.

2. Take Motion Picture Recording to the Next-Level with New Generation AVCHD Lite and iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode

In addition to Motion JPEG images, the DMC-TS1 can record high-definition motion picture in AVCHD Lite. It features almost doubling the recording time in HD quality compared with the conventional Motion JPEG format. The DMC-TS1 also features Dolby Digital Creator to record high quality audio, so you can match the beautiful motion images with outstanding sound.
Now on the DMC-TS1, the popular iA (Intelligent Auto) is also available in motion image recording.
The 4.6x optical zoom is available in movie recording, too. A Wind Cut function is also available to block out most of the noise from background wind. The TS1 also provides a Color mode and carries over 17 different scene modes from photo scene modes in movie recording. In AVCHD Lite recording, you can select from three levels of motion image quality: SH (17 Mbps), H (13 Mbps) and L (9 Mbps). In dark places such as nigh camping, the built-in LED light automatically turns on while recording motion images.
Alternatively, you can use an optional mini HDMI cable to output the still and motion images you took from the TS1 directly to the TV for VIERA Link. You can take maximum advantage of Lumix camera's playback functions including the slideshow in which both still and motion images integrated in the timeline, category playback according to the scene mode you used or calendar display and so on. All control is possible using only the TV's remote control.
In addition, with the included software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 3.0 HD Edition, it is easy to view and edit your recorded contents.

3. Newly Added Face Recognition Makes the iA (Intelligent Auto) Further Evolved for More Beautiful Still Picture Recording

With the TS1, taking great photos is that easy. Panasonic incorporated the Intelligent Auto mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of misshots. This mode is now further advanced with the inclusion of Face Recognition and AF Tracking features for TS1. In iA mode the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose shots and capture moments. Just press aim, and shoot.
The TS1 features Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces. When babies under 3 years-old are registered, the camera will automatically switch to Baby Scene mode if the baby appears into the frame. In playback, you can choose to display only photos that contain a specific registered face using Category Playback. You can also view image slideshows of only a selected person. Face recognition makes sorting archiving incredibly easy. This advanced face detection system also digitally corrects unwanted red-eye during recording.
With AF Tracking, the TS1 can lock onto any subject and keep it in focus even if it moves - making it easy to get beautiful, clear shots when a great photo opportunity suddenly arises.
It now features an automatic backlight compensation function that activates whenever the subject is in backlight.
The user can activate all of these useful, convenient shooting-assist functions by simply selecting iA mode.
*Turn Face Recognition item ON and resister the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance. Refer to back page for detail.

4. 28mm Ultra-Wide-Angle LEICA DC Lens with 4.6x Optical Zoom Extends the Shooting Possibilities in Both Still and Motion Image Shooting

The TS1 features a high-quality LEICA DC VARIO ELMAR 28mm wide-angle lens with a 4.6x optical zoom. The folded optics of shaft guide method is adopted to secure the toughness of the lens unit. Comprising 9 elements and a prism unit in 8 groups, including 1 ED lenses and 5 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces, a difficult feat even by today's standards, this advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards to deliver exceptional optical performance to the edges even adopting the folded optics.
Further, in 3-megapixel resolution mode, the Extra Optical Zoom function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power to 9.1x (252mm*) by using the centre part of the 12.1-megapixel large CCD.
*Equivalent to 35mm film camera.

The camera starts up quickly in 1.3 seconds. Shutter release time lag is as short as approx. 0.005 seconds, making it easy to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities. In burst shooting mode, the TS1 can snap approx. 2.3 shots per second at 12.1-megapixel full resolution*1. In Hi-speed Burst shooting mode, it fires off an incredible approx. 10 shots per second*2. Unlimited consecutive shooting is also available to let you shoot until the memory card is full*3.
Despite its outstanding performance, the high performance engine is also more energy efficient compared with the conventional Venus Engine IV, extending the battery life up to 340 shots (CIPA) per a single charge.

5. A 2.7-inch, Super High Resolution 230,000-dot LCD for Easy Playback

The TS1 is equipped with a 2.7-inch, 230,000-dot Intelligent LCD with super high resolution and a wide viewing angle. The screen brightness automatically adjusts in 11 steps as the surrounding brightness level changes, ensuring easy visibility at all times.

6. Other Versatile Functions Adding to the Photographic Enjoyment

Lumix functions continue to evolve. Scene modes, which are optimized for a variety of still-image shooting situations, are now available for motion images as well. Thanks to a rich variety of 24 scene modes for still image and 17 for motion image (Portrait, Soft Skin, Transform, Self portrait, Scenery, Low light, Food, Party, Candle light, Sunset, Beach & Surf, Snow, Aerial, High Sensitivity, Pin hole, Film grain and Underwater.), capturing beautiful videos is effortless with the TS1. The most commonly used scene modes for outdoor photography including Sports, Snow, and Beach & Surf can be accessed directly via the mode dial.
The new scene mode for shooting still images includes the Beach & Surf and Panorama Assist mode. Beach & Surf mode is perfect for your beach activities, allowing you to use a single mode with optimized auto white balance both on the beach and in shallow water. Panorama Assist mode allows you to create powerful panoramic images - both vertically and horizontally. Simply align your shots according to a guide which overlaps the frame when you shoot, then use the included Panorama Maker software to create your panorama images.
The minimum shooting distance has been shortened to 3 cm on the TS1. Using the extra 3x digital magnification in the Macro Zoom function*, you can pull subjects even closer than the closest point possible in the wide-angle setting, and capture dramatic close-ups.
* 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.

1. 25mm Ultra-Wide-Angle 5x Optical Zoom (25-125mm) F2.8 High-Quality Leica DC Lens and 12.1-Megapixel CCD

The 12.1-megapixel DMC-FX580 packages a ultra-wide 25mm Leica DC VARIO-ELMARIT high-quality lens with 5x optical zoom (equivalent to 25-125mm on a 35mm film camera), offering F2.8 brightness. Comprising 7 elements in 6 groups, including 4 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance. Notably, unevenly thick concave meniscus EA (Extra high refractive index Aspherical) lens makes it possible to achieve the 25mm ultra-wide angle high optical performance while keeping the lens unit thin and the body slim. The 25mm ultra-wide-angle lens records almost double the viewing space at the same shooting distance compared to ordinary 35mm cameras.
Further, in 3-megapixel resolution mode, the Extra Optical Zoom function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power to 9.8x by using the center part of the CCD. The DMC-FX580 also has an Easy Zoom feature that, at the touch of a button, shifts the lens instantly to full 5.0x zoom power. A second touch of the button activates the Extra Optical Zoom function and extends zoom all the way to 9.8x.**
The iris diaphragm allows the users to adjust aperture at fine steps manually.
*35mm film camera equivalent: 25-125mm
**When the picture size is set to 3 megapixels or larger, the photo is automatically resized to 3 megapixels. When the lens is shifted back to the wide-end, the picture size is set to the original size automatically. The original size is maintained for photos smaller than 3 megapixels.

2. Face Recognition Integrated in the Advanced Intelligent Auto mode

Panasonic incorporated the Intelligent Auto mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of misshots. This mode is also further advanced with the inclusion of the Face Recognition feature for DMC-FX580.
The DMC-FX580 features Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces.
With AF Tracking, the DMC-FX580 can lock onto any subject and keep it in focus even if it moves - making it easy to get beautiful, clear shots when a great photo opportunity suddenly arises. Simply aim, lock, and shoot. And the Intelligent Scene Selector automatically detects common shooting situations and switches to the appropriate scene mode and automatically turns backlight compensation on when necessary.
In iA mode the camera does all the work, activating AF tracking, Face Detection with Face Recognition, MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, and Intelligent Exposure. This leaves the user free to simply compose the shot and press the shutter button, with the assurance that the image will be clear, beautiful and properly exposed.
*Turn Face Recognition item ON and resister the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance. Refer to back page for detail.

3. Intuitive Manual Operation with 3.0-inch Large Touch Screen Interface

The DMC-FX580 incorporates a 3.0-inch large touch-screen interface to achieve amazing ease in both shooting and playing back the images. Panasonic proposes a hybrid operation system combining the new touch-screen interface and the conventional operation system with cursor key for more quick and intuitive control, by taking advantage of both operation systems. Basic settings can be directly controlled by the cursor key, and others extensive ones are finely adjusted by touch or by moving a slider on the screen with the finger or an included stylus-pen. Users can set the auto focus and exposure at the desired part of the frame by simply touching the subject at that part while recording. In manual exposure mode, aperture and shutter speed can be adjusted by moving the slider. You can also make fine adjustment of white balance and color temperature with the touch screen. In playback mode, even a large, high resolution images can be comfortably played back with a touch scroll. The Easy Organization menu is provided to simplify image organizing. The user can quickly select an image to view by scrolling the thumbnails located below the main window, and then edit the image by resizing, trimming and inputting the text title of the picture. You can also flag the desired image as your favorites or delete them in one menu interface.
This touch-screen interface features a high-resolution Intelligent LCD which automatically controls the brightness at a total of 11 fine steps by detecting the surrounding lighting condition. This function gives the display the most appropriate clarity in any situation.
Menus now look clearer and easier to navigate, even for seniors, thanks to the new Display Size option. Thanks to the Venus Engine V, smooth image playback at very high speeds is now available approx. 17x faster for thumbnail and approx. 4x for single image even the image resolution is as high as 12.1-megapixel.

4. High performance, Multi-task Image Processing LSI, the Venus Engine V

The high-speed, high-performance Venus Engine has been re-engineered to reborn as the even powerful Venus Engine V. Apart from the conventional imaging engine, the Venus Engine V has twin CPUs to boast approx. 2.4x processing speed. In addition, this high performance LSI elevates the artificial intelligence of the camera, making it possible to "recognize" the human faces individually.
In the image processing, parallel noise reduction in both luminance signal and chromatic signal processing systems is performed. Then, the luminance noise is further two-dimensionally separated into high-frequency and low-frequency noises and only the low-frequency noise, which tends to be conspicuous, is eliminated without affecting the high-frequency noise that greatly influences resolution.
The multi-task image-processing engine Venus Engine V supports super-fast response time. The shutter release time lag is as short as approx. 0.007 second and the camera's quick response makes it easier to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities. In burst shooting mode, the DMC-FX580 can snap approx. 2.3 shots per second at 12.1-megapixel large full resolution.* And in Hi-speed Burst shooting mode,** it fires off an incredible approx. 10 shots per second**. You also get unlimited consecutive shooting which lets you keep shooting until the memory card is full***. Flash Burst mode makes it possible to take continuous shooting with continuous emission of flash****.
Despite its outstanding performance, the high performance engine is also superior in its energy efficiency by approx. 16% compared with the conventional Venus Engine IV to extend the battery life up to 350 shots (CIPA) per a single charge.
* Max. 5 images in standard mode / 3 images in fine mode.
** In speed priority mode. 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording. (6 Images in Image Priority mode).
*** The consecutive shooting speed varies with the memory card, image size, and image compression mode. The number of shots depends on the memory card size, battery life, image size and image compression mode.
**** Max. 5 images. In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.

5. Exciting Options to Expand the Fun of Photography in the High-Definition Era

All Lumix cameras can take 1920 x 1080 pixel HD (high-definition) quality photos that perfectly fit a wide-screen (16:9) HDTV for full-screen viewing. The new DMC-FX580 even records dynamic HD motion pictures in 1280 x 720p at a smooth 30 fps, in addition to WVGA (848 x 480) and normal VGA (640 x 480)* **. With HD component output capability, you can enjoy watching still and motion pictures in stunning HD quality taken by your DMC-FX580 by simply connecting the camera to a TV via an optional component cable (DMW-HDC2).
*In Motion Picture mode, the length of recording time depends on the capacity of the SDHC/SD Memory Card. (Up to the equivalent of 2 GB per motion-image recording.) When you set the motion picture quality to VGA 30fps, WVGA 30fps and HD(1280x720) 30/15fps, we recommend using a high-speed memory card with "10MB/s" or greater on the package. Some lens movement sounds may be recorded.
**For Europe, motion images can be recorded continuously for up to 15 minutes.

6. Other Versatile Functions Add to the Fun

The new DMC-FX580 features a variety of functionalities to expand the convenience and fun for users to enjoy taking beautiful pictures. The new scene mode for shooting still images includes the Panorama Assist mode, which allows you to create powerful panoramic images - both vertically and horizontally. Simply align your shots according to a guide which overlaps the frame when you shoot, then use the included Panorama Maker software to create your panorama images.
With the new Macro Zoom function, the user can pull subjects even closer than the closest point possible with the wide-angle setting by using 3x digital zoom, and capture dramatic close-ups.

About Included Software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 3.0

The latest version of exciting software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 3.0 comes bundled with DMC-FX580. The PHOTOfunSTUDIO 3.0 allows the user to edit or organize a collection of photos with more ease and fun. The portrait images taken with the camera's Face Recognition function are organized neatly in the folder of the name registered with the camera. Not only that, the software also features an independent Face Recognition function that recognizes the faces in the picture stored in your PC to sort the photos by the face. You do not have to pick out each photo one by one out of thousand of photos when you only want pictures of a specific person. With PHOTOfunSTUDIO 3.0, the software automatically sorts your images into virtual folders based on the faces you registered. You can also enjoy slideshows with a variety of effects and use your iTunes music library as background music. Motion pictures can be uploaded directly to YouTube using the built-in YouTube uploader.
*Recognition performance varies greatly depending on shooting conditions, i.e., according to factors such as angles, facial expression and lighting, so operation under all conditions cannot be guaranteed. Because the camera searches for faces that are similar to registered faces, there are cases where the faces are not correctly recognized when the registered image and the shooting image varies much. When facial characteristics are similar, particularly between parents and their children or brothers and sisters, the camera may not distinguish the faces.
*Dynamic tracking function may fail to lock, lose the subject in AF Tracking, or track different subject depending on the recording conditions.

Comprising 7 elements in 6 groups, including 4 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance. Notably, an unevenly thick concave meniscus EA(extra high refractive index aspherical) lens makes it possible to achieve the 25mm ultra-wide-angle high optical performance while keeping the lens unit thin and the body slim.
*35mm film camera equivalent: 25-125mm

2. Face Recognition Integrated in the Advanced Intelligent Auto mode

Panasonic incorporated the Intelligent Auto mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of misshots. This mode is also further advanced with the inclusion of the Face Recognition feature for DMC-FX48.
The DMC-FX48 features Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces.
With AF Tracking, the DMC-FX48 can lock onto any subject and keep it in focus even if it moves - making it easy to get beautiful, clear shots when a great photo opportunity suddenly arises. Simply aim, lock, and shoot.
*Turn Face Recognition item ON and resister the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance. Refer to back page for detail.

2.4x processing capability.
In burst shooting mode, the DMC-FX48 can snap approx.

4. Wide Viewing Angle 2.5-inch Large Intelligent LCD with 230,000-dot High Resolution for Easy Shooting and Playback

The DMC-FX48 incorporates an easy-to-see, large, 2.5-inch 230,000-dot high-resolution LCD. The Intelligent LCD function equipped in the FX48 detects the light condition and automatically boosts the LCD backlighting by Max. 40%. Detecting the lighting condition precisely and automatically controlling the brightness with a total of 11 fine steps, this function gives the display the most appropriate clarity in any situation without using extra energy. Together with the panel which boasts a wide viewing angle, it secures comfortable viewing while both monitoring shots and playing back the results in any circumstances.

5. Other Versatile Functions Add to the Fun

The new DMC-FX48 features a variety of functionalities to expand the convenience and fun for users to enjoy taking beautiful pictures. The new scene mode for shooting still images includes the Panorama Assist mode, which allows you to create powerful panoramic images - both vertically and horizontally. Simply align your shots according to a guide which overlaps the frame when you shoot, then use the included PanoramaMaker software to create your panorama images.
With the new Macro Zoom function, the user can pull subjects even closer than the closest point possible with the wide-angle setting by using 3x digital zoom, and capture dramatic close-ups.

About Included Software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 3.0

The latest version of exciting software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 3.0 comes bundled with DMC-FX48.

DMC-FS25
12.1-Megapixel LUMIX DMC-FS25
with 29mm Wide-Angle 5x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens*
Combines Simple Operation with Advanced Intelligent Auto mode
and 3.0-inch Large LCD in Slim, Stylish Profile
*35mm film camera equivalent: 29-145mm
Panasonic is pleased to introduce the new 12.1-megapixel DMC-FS25 camera of 29mm wide angle Leica DC lens with 5x optical zoom (equivalent to 29mm to 145mm on a 35mm film camera) with 3.0-inch large LCD as a member of Lumix new FS series. The new FS series, a sister line of the world-acclaimed FX series, pursues easy and simple operation with its high-grade profile for users at every stage to enjoy taking beautiful pictures.
Panasonic's iA (intelligent auto) mode, which makes it easy for anyone to take beautiful photos by detecting the scene and optimizing the settings, has been further enhanced for new FS25 to comprehend AF tracking and Intelligent Exposure functions. The newly added AF Tracking function automatically tracks the subject once the AF has been set even if the subject moves around, making it easier to capture sharp, well-focused photos of decisive moments. The Intelligent Exposure function helps capture natural-looking, true-to-life images by suppressing blocked shadows and blown highlights. Also, the backlight compensation automatically turns on if the subject is in backlight. Face detection accuracy has also been increased, allowing continuous AF/AE adjustment even if a face moves or turns sideways to the camera. Not only that, the unwanted red-eye effect caused by the use of the flash can be digitally corrected. The newly added independent iA button on the top of the camera lets enter the iA mode directly. Once you enter iA mode, these multi-capable functions happen automatically so you can shoot without the bother of adjusting settings every time conditions change. You can enjoy easy, trouble-free shooting in any situation and get the satisfaction that comes with capturing clear, beautiful images.
The DMC-FS25 incorporates a 3-inch large 230,000-dot LCD with Intelligent LCD function, which detects the lighting condition and controls the brightness level of the LCD in 11 fine steps, to offer a display with the most appropriate clarity in any situation. Menus now look clearer and easier to navigate, even for seniors, thanks to the new Display Size option. Other various upgrades make FS25 enhance fun of taking pictures.
Dressed in the brushed metal-finished panel, the slim and sleek DMC-FS25 offers an enjoyment of taking great snapshots casually with committed ease of operation even for beginners. The DMC-FS25 in silver, black and gold*.
*Availability of models and colors may vary depending on the sales area.

1. Evolution of iA(Intelligent Auto) mode never stops for every photographer to be a good photographer

Panasonic incorporated the Intelligent Auto mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of misshots. This mode is also further advanced with the inclusion of the AF tracking, Intelligent Exposure feature for DMC-FS25. Furthermore, digital red-eye correction is also integrated in the Face Detection. In iA mode the camera does all the work, activating AF tracking*, MEGA O.I.S. (optical image stabilizer), Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, Face Detection, and Intelligent Exposure. This leaves the user free to simply compose the shot and press the shutter button, with the assurance that the image will be clear, beautiful and properly exposed.
With the new AF Tracking function, the user can "lock" the focus onto a moving subject. The camera then automatically tracks the subject as it moves, keeping it in focus without the user having to hold the shutter button halfway down. This makes it easier to capture the perfect moment clearly and in sharp focus when shooting images of a child, pet, sports or any scene with moving subjects and spur-of-the-moment action.
Intelligent Exposure suppresses blocked shadows and blown highlights to capture images that look natural and true-to-life. It now features an automatic backlight compensation function that activates whenever the camera detects that the subject is in backlight.
Intelligent Scene Selector, which automatically selects whichever of 5 scene modes -- Macro, Portrait, Scenery, Night Portrait, and Night Scenery - that best suits the shooting situation. The Quick AF system allows the camera to keep focus on the subject while the camera is in recording mode even before without pressing a shutter button halfway, to get best result out of a shutter chance because the focus is always near the subject and the AF time is minimized.
The user can activate all of these useful, convenient shooting-assist functions by simply pressing an independent iA button on the top of the camera, which is newly equipped for direct activation of the mode. All these make the FS25 the ultimate, super-versatile automatic camera for capturing clear, beautiful, mistake-free photos with ease.

2. 29mm Wide Angle 5x Optical Zoom (29-145mm*) Leica DC VARIO-ELMAR Lens, 12.1-megapixel High Resolution CCD and High Performance Venus Engine IV

The 12.1-megapixel DMC-FS25 packages a 29mm wide-angle* Leica DC VARIO-ELMAR lens with 5x optical zoom into a slim, compact body. Further, in 3-megapixel resolution mode, the Extra Optical Zoom function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power to 9.8x (284mm*) by using the centre part of the CCD.
The image-processing LSI, Venus Engine IV, features advanced signal processing technology for rendering high quality images.
Featured in the DMC- FS25, the multi-task image-processing engine Venus Engine IV supports a super-fast response time. The shutter release time lag is as short as 0.006 second and the camera's quick response makes it easier to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities together with the short startup time of approx. 1.2 second.
The Venus Engine IV also supports a High Sensitivity mode that lets the DMC-FS25 record at a setting of up to ISO 6400, sensitive enough to capture subjects in near-total darkness without using a flash.***
* 35mm film camera equivalent.
** Max. 5 images in standard mode / 3 images in fine mode.
*** In 3-megapixel(4:3), 2.5-megapixel(3:2), 2-megapixel(16:9) recording

3. Advanced 3.0-inch Large 230,000-dot Intelligent LCD for Easy Shooting and Playback

The DMC-FS25 incorporates an easy-to-see, large, 3.0-inch 230,000-dot Intelligent LCD for comfortable viewing while both monitoring shots and playing back the results. The Intelligent LCD function detects the light condition and automatically boosts the LCD backlighting by Max. 40% when shooting outdoors in bright sunshine, and adjusts the frame rate when shooting in low-lit situations in addition to using the pixel mixed readout method to secure clarity in such situations. Detecting the lighting condition precisely and automatically controlling the brightness with a total of 11 fine steps, this function gives the display the most appropriate clarity in any situation without using extra energy. The High-angle mode makes the LCD screen extremely easy to view when the camera is held high, such as when shooting over a crowd.
Menus now look clearer with the new Display Size option, which makes it easier to navigate, even for seniors.

4. Exciting Options to Expand the Fun of Photography

The Lumix camera further offers wide variety of options to expand fun of photography. The DMC-FS25 provides slideshows complete with music. Just select the pictures you want to show and choose the mood that best matches your selection from natural, slow, urban or swing, and you'll get an emotion-filled slideshow with a variety of slide change effects and matching music without any annoying adjustments.
All Lumix cameras can take 1920 x 1080 pixel high-definition quality photos that are ideal for full-screen viewing on a wide-screen (16:9) HDTV.
