Basic Principle of LUMIX G Image Quality

Portrays Finely Detailed, Lifelike Images 16.05-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor

The 16.05-megapixel Live MOS Sensor features Panasonic’s original pixel mix technology. The current process is designed exclusively for the digital Live MOS sensor to minimize the noise generation. The fine wiring around the photodiode realizes high aperture ratio, which results in high resolution and excellent S/N ratio while high performance transistor encourages high speed signal processing.

Greater Beauty, Higher Speed, and Less Power Consumption Venus Engine

The Venus Engine for DMC-G5 features exceptionally advanced signal processing capabilities to render clear, crisp images in both photo and video recording. Also, the 4 CPUs excels in processing large amount of digital signals at high speed for these advanced noise reduction system, 1,920 x 1,080 full HD progressive video recording and high speed burst shooting.

MNR (Multi-process Noise Reduction)

In Dark Part

High frequency noise is suppressed.

In Bright Part

Low frequency noise is suppressed.

The MNR quickly detects brightness in each part of a picture and applies optimum noise reduction in multiple steps.

3DNR (3D Noise Reduction)

Around the Edges

By preventing the color mixture, chromatic noise is suppressed.

Outline Parts

Selective NR provides a naturally-balanced curve without deterioration in the resolution.

Gradation Area

Spot-type noise in the dark areas of the image or color bleeding in the bright areas is suppressed.

The 3DNR detects smooth part and edge part of a picture and adjust the strength of noise reduction – stronger to the smooth part and milder to the edge part to maintain the descriptiveness.

Rich Gradation and Wide Contrast Range HDR (High Dynamic Range)

Several still images consecutively shot at different exposure levels are overlaid to produce a single composite picture without whiteout (over-exposure) or blackout (under-exposure).

Intelligent D-range Control

The Intelligent D-range Control offers even more natural looking by optimizing the exposure for each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights and helping ensure that gradation and details are reproduced beautifully including the blue color of the sky.

Intelligent Resolution Technology

With the Intelligent Resolution technology, 3 areas – outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation areas – are automatically detected. Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, this technology precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way according to the area. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp in both photo and video recording.
