Creative HD Movie in AVCHD Lite

Extended, High-resolution Movies HD Movie Recording in AVCHD Lite

The DMC-GF1 can record 1,280 x 720 high-definition motion image in AVCHD Lite that features long recording time and high compatibility with audio-visual equipment. You can enjoy recording HD motion images taking maximum advantage of lens' descriptiveness and interchangeability or the large sensor size. HD Motion JPEG in 1,280 x 720 can also be selected as an alternative movie recording format in addition to QVGA, VGA and WVGA, which is more compatible with computers. In AVCHD Lite recording, you can select from 3 levels of motion image quality: SH (17 Mbps), H (13 Mbps) and L (9 Mbps).

Comparison of Recording Length (per a single charge of battery)*1

Formats to Match Your Needs

AVCHD Lite: Optimal for viewing on a VIERA TV or with a DIGA Blu-ray disc player*4.

Motion JPEG: Optimal for viewing or editing on a computer.

*1 Approx. Maximum recording time, HD movie recording at 720P.
For Europe, motion images can be recorded continuously for up to 29 minutes 59 seconds. The maximum continuous recording time (up to 29 minutes 59 seconds) is displayed on the screen.
When you set the image quality to HD, WVGA or VGA, we recommend using a high-speed card with "10MB/s" or greater displayed on the package.
Motion images and images with audio taken with the DMC-GF1 may not always be able to be played back with cameras by other manufacturers. Playback may also not be possible with certain Panasonic digital cameras (LUMIX) launched before December 2008, and some cameras launched in 2009 (FS, LS Series).
*2 QuickTime Motion JPEG. The length of recording time depends on the capacity of the SDHC/SD Memory Card. (Up to the equivalent of 2 GB per motion-image recording.)
*3 When using the LCD with LUMIX G 20mm / F1.7 ASPH.
These are standard times taken at a temperature of 23°C(73.4°F) and a humidity of 50%.
The time available for recording varies depending on the environment, the interval between recordings, and the manner of use.
Actual recordable time is the time available for recording when repeating actions such as switching the power supply [ON]/[OFF], starting/stopping recording, zoom operation, etc.
*4 AVCHD Lite motion images recorded onto an SD Memory Card or a DVD cannot be played from a device that does not support the AVCHD standard.

High-quality Sound

The DMC-GF1 features Dolby Digital Creator to record high quality audio, so you can match the beautiful movies with outstanding sound. In addition, a Wind Cut function is also available to block out most of the noise from background wind.

Motion Picture Button

Movie recording can be started by pressing a dedicated button on the top of the camera — an extremely quick, convenient way to start movie recording. Most of the camera's settings will be carried over when switched to movie recording.

The Ultimate Functions in the Artistic Flat Camera Creative Movie Functions

With the DMC-GF1, you can try professional-like movie recording with a variety of options like you do with photo recording. My Color Mode and 11 different Scene Modes can be used to record movies. And Motion Picture P Mode lets you change even the depth of field in the appropriate exposure like program shifting by rotating the rear dial*.

*As the aperture is controlled within a certain range to get an adequate exposure in this mode, an actual aperture setting would not be changed in response to the movement of selection cursor, depending on the brightness of the subject. No change on the degree of peripheral defocus could be recognized.

Versatile System Camera Expandability Interchangeable Lenses

The appeal of an interchangeable lens camera is that a wider range of motion image expression becomes possible by changing the lens. Micro Four Thirds lenses include the LUMIX G lenses, which range from ultra-wide angle to telephoto, and the new LEICA DG MACRO-ELMARIT 45mm / F2.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. And the optional DMW-MA1, DMW-MA2M and DMW-MA3R mount adaptors further expand the variety of lenses you can use.

28-280mm* LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0-5.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. Movie Support

The lens that complies with the optional HD movie compatible Micro Four Thirds mount is recommended for shooting movies. In addition to the capability to use the Continuous AF / AE function for recording motion images, the silence design that helps suppress lens drive noise makes recording sounds greater clarity.

* 35 mm film camera equivalent.

Beautiful HD Movies with Point-and-shoot Ease iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode for Movie

Even video beginners can record excellent movies with the DMC-GF1 because the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode is also available for movie recording. The iA Mode automatically and simultaneously activates 4 advanced detection functions: MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) to detect hand-shake, Face Detection AF/AE to detect faces in the frame, Intelligent Scene Selector to detect scene conditions, and Intelligent Exposure to detect the ambient light. Since the camera automatically optimizes the settings, it lets you shoot stunning HD movies every time.

Shake Detection*1 MEGA O.I.S.

Gyrosensors detect hand-shaking and the O.I.S. lens shifts to compensate, helping prevent blurring caused by hand-shaking.

Face Detection*1 Face Detection AF/AE

The Face Detection function detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure. It detects a maximum of 15 faces at once, and automatically readjusts the settings if their positions change.

Scene Detection*2 Intelligent Scene Selector

The Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects either the Scenery, Portrait, Macro, or Low Light Mode accordingly.

Light Detection Intelligent Exposure

By detecting the intensity of the ambient light and adjusting the exposure accordingly, the Intelligent Exposure prevents blown highlights and blocked shadows.

*1 Some functions in iA Mode will not be available depending on the lens that is mounted.
*2 With some subject and shooting conditions, it is just not possible to judge the best shooting details. When this happens, it is recommended that you shoot with the Scene Mode that best suits your purpose.

Easily View Photos and Movies on an HDTV VIERA Link / HDMI Compatibility

Alternatively, you can use an optional mini HDMI cable to output the motion images you took from the DMC-GF1 directly to the TV for VIERA Link*3. You can take maximum advantage of LUMIX's playback functions, including the slideshow in which both motion and still images integrated in the timeline, Face Recognition playback or calendar display and so on. All control is possible using only the TV's remote control.
