The World’s Fastest Level of Light Speed AF

More Accurate and Faster than Phase Difference AF The World’s Fastest Level of Light Speed AF

The DMC-GH2 boasts its high performance to make the photographic experience even more comfortable and fun. It features the world’s fastest*1 level Light Speed AF of approx. 0.1 second which is achieved by reducing the detection time for focusing by doubling the drive speed from 60 frames per second to 120 frames per second. Not only the accuracy but also the speed excels by far than the high-end D-SLRs with phase difference AF with the advanced contrast AF system in the DMC-GH2.
Combined with the Touch AF control, setting and focusing at the subject is incredibly easy and quick, never missing the spur-of-the-moment.

*1 The time for focusing on the subject is measured with the DMC-GH2 attaching LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0-5.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. (H-VS014140)*2 to move the lens position to “2m” from “infinity” position. The zoom position is in wide range. Panasonic measurement method.
*2 The firmware must be updated to Ver. 1.3 or later.

• To get the best AF performance with DMC-GH2 and LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0-5.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. (H-VS014140), the firmware of LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0-5.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. (H-VS014140) must be updated to ver. 1.3 or later.

A Versatile Consecutive Mode to Match Shooting Intent High-speed Consecutive Shooting

The newly developed Live MOS sensor helps to realize the high speed burst shooting at 5 frames per second in full 16.05-megapixel resolution with mechanical shutter and 3 frames per second even when using the Full-time Live View. Even higher speed burst shooting is available with the DMC-GH2 if electronic shutter is used – 40 frames per second in 4-megapixel*1.

*1 In the high speed burst shooting at 40 fps, the picture size is max. 4-megapixel (4:3), 3.8-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) or 3-megapixel (1:1).
*2 When quality is set to RAW+Fine, RAW+Standard or RAW, burst speed is 4.5 fps.
*3 Images can be taken until the capacity of the card becomes full. However the burst speed will become slower halfway. The exact timing of this depends on the aspect ratio, the picture size, the setting for the quality and the type of card used.

5 fps with 16.05-megapixel High-resolution

The DMC-GH2 can fire off up to approx. 5 frames per second in full 16.05-megapixel resolution with its mechanical shutter. Great for capturing fast subject motion, such as sports scenes or birds in flight.

The number of recordable images has been increased*.

* Firmware must be updated to the latest version 1.1.

40 fps with 4-megapixel Resolution

Even higher-speed burst shooting is possible with the DMC-GH2 when the electronic shutter is used – 40 fps at 4-megapixel* resolution. Great for capturing race cars and other subjects that are difficult to catch with the naked eyes.

* In the high speed burst shooting at 40 fps, the picture size is max. 4-megapixel (4:3), 3.8-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) or 3-megapixel (1:1).

Greater Beauty, Higher Speed, and Less Power Consumption Venus Engine

For the image processor, the new Venus Engine is incorporated that features exceptionally advanced signal processing capabilities in both photo and video recording.

High Processing Performance

Featuring a multi-task image processing system realized by 3CPUs, the Venus Engine in DMC-GH2 boasts approx.1.8x processing performance compared with the conventional image processor with 2CPUs. It supports various high speed burst shooting and smooth full HD video recording with 60P sensor output and so on.

Advanced Noise Reduction

By separating chromatic noise from luminance noise even more accurately by applying the optimal noise reduction to each, you can capture clear and beautiful images even when shooting at high ISO sensitivity levels. By preventing the color mixture which tends to occur around the edges, any chromatic noise, not only the in gradation part but also in the edge part, are described clearly. The engine also provides selective noise reduction to the outline part to let it have more naturally-balanced curve without deterioration of the resolution.
In addition, the spot-type noise which can be often seen in the dark area of the image taken in low light situation or color bleeding on high luminance area generated by the chromatic aberration.

Advanced Noise Reduction in Venus Engine

Adopting various new method corresponding to the nanofabrication of the cell

1 : Advanced CNR (Chromatic Noise Reduction) at the edges

By preventing the color mixture which tended to occur around the edges, any chromatic noise, not only the in gradation part but also in the edge part, are described clearly.

2 : Noise suppression at the edges

The engine also provides selective noise reduction to the outline part to let it have more naturally-balanced curve without deterioration of the resolution in the detailed area such as human hairs.

3 : Spot-type noise suppression

Spot-type noise which can be often seen in the dark area of the image taken in low light situation or color bleeding on high luminance area generated by the chromatic aberration are effectively suppressed.

Video

The newly integrated motion detection circuit elevates the accuracy of motion detection to suppress the noise generated in moving parts more effectively.

The Intelligent Resolution technology is another feature of the Venus Engine and precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way for it. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp in both photo and video recording.

Linking smoothly with the Live MOS sensor, the Venus Engine processes the large amount of signals at high speed, making it possible to record high resolution consecutive shots and full-HD video recording.

The NR (Noise Reduction) system is improved for shooting at ISO1600 or higher settings*.

* Firmware must be updated to the latest version 1.1.

Extended Battery Life

The energy-saving Venus Engine and the genuine rechargeable lithium-ion battery work together to extend the shooting time of the DMC-GH2, making it possible to take approx. 320 shots*1 or approx. 330 shots*2 on a single battery charge when using the LCD, and approx. 330 shots*1 or approx. 340 shots*2 when using the LVF.

*1 According to the CIPA Standard with the LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0-5.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. (bundled lens in the DMC-GH2H).
*2 According to the CIPA Standard with the LUMIX G VARIO 14-42mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. (bundled lens in the DMC-GH2K).

• The DMC-GH2 comes with a function to check whether the battery and unit can be safely used together. • Batteries made by other companies which have been certified by Panasonic may be used with these units, but we offer no guarantee as to the quality, performance or safety of such batteries. • Exercise care when purchasing batteries. Many fake or imitation batteries have been found among those sold at unusually low prices and those which customers cannot check for themselves before purchasing. • Please confirm the latest information about batteries on the following website.
