CEATEC JAPAN is one of Asia's largest IT and electronics exhibitions. Following on the success of IFA 2010, Panasonic introduced a 3D world that includes both home and business applications, with a wide array of products ranging from home 3D products centering on VIERA TVs, to professional 3D camera recorders, 3D production systems, and 3D image solutions in the Network AV Zone at CEATEC JAPAN 2010.

In some cases, the same image was shown on each of the 33 displays, and in other cases multiple images were combined to form a single image. All were displayed in high-resolution 3D and precisely synchronized with 3D Eyewear to prevent any image irregularities or deviation.
This was the FULL HD 3D presentation stage. A total of 33 3D plasma displays, ranging from the world's largest 152-inch screen to 42-inch screens, formed a virtual wall of displays to capture widespread attention. A 10-minute presentation of Panasonic's FULL HD 3D activities and technologies backed by a variety of FULL HD 3D images was given on stage for audiences wearing 3D Eyewear. After viewing the presentation, visitors were led inside the booth, still wearing their 3D Eyewear, and experienced demos and exhibitions of individual 3D products.

At the VIERA Technology corner, explanations of how Panasonic technologies enable the high image quality of 3D VIERA were provided. Centering on high-contrast technology and crosstalk reduction technology, the plasma panel's primary features, including its wide viewing angle and black reproduction, have also been applied to 3D. Visitors saw this for themselves by viewing comparative images.

In addition to auctions, Panasonic introduced a new service that lets users read e-books and e-magazines on a large VIERA display. The exhibit showed how TVs are evolving from something that you simply watch to something that you actually use.
At this year's CEATEC, Panasonic proposed a new application for VIERA's large screen by allowing Japan's largest Internet auction service, Yahoo! Auctions, to be used on VIERA. Aiming for practical use within Japan by Spring 2011, joint development between Panasonic and Yahoo Japan Corporation is underway. Panasonic also plans to provide a similar service to the global market, focusing on Japan, the United States and Europe.
Actual devices were displayed as reference exhibits at a special corner where visitors could view demo images. They were shown visuals that only a large-screen TV could display and auction items from the programs that they watched.

At the LUMIX corner, the LUMIX GH2, the world's first 3D compatible digital interchangeable lens system camera, and the world's first* interchangeable 3D lens were displayed. The 3D lens is extremely thin, and lets users capture 3D still images with the same ease as ordinary stills. The images can also be viewed on a 3D VIERA TV using an SD card. The booth, where actual 3D still images were shot and displayed on a VIERA TV, attracted the attention of many visitors.

Again in the footsteps of IFA, a corner was set up where visitors could experience using the world's first* 3D compatible camcorder. When the camera was aimed at the subject, assistants shook surrounding balloons and pointed poles toward the camcorder. These 3-dimensional images were displayed on a 3D VIERA TV. Next to the booth was a corner with a VIERA TV, on which people could display an SD card containing the 3D image that had just been taken. The exhibit showed how much fun it is to quickly and easily display everyday images.

Like the LUMIX corner, the 3D camcorder demo corner showed how much fun it is to shoot 3D images.

The "3D Professional ideas" corner replicated a FULL HD 3D image production site. Along with exhibiting a variety of professional equipment, such as the AG-3DA1, which is the world's first integrated twin-lens 3D camera recorder, this corner showed how you can produce 3D content with an extremely compact system.

This booth described technologies of the near future. Using a 3D VIERA TV, a 3D compatible camcorder, and a 3D compatible HD visual communications system, a demonstration was given where a videoconference was held in 3D through an Internet connection. A live broadcast between the CEATEC venue in Makuhari and a demo booth in Shinagawa was conducted, allowing visitors to experience images and sounds that were so clear, it was easy to forget that they were being connected through a network. This system proposed using 3D images, for example, to show prototypes of new products in 3D while having a conversation or an ordinary 2D videoconference.

So what did you think?
