CEATEC JAPAN, which is Asia's largest-scale IT and electronics exhibition, was held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba prefecture again this year.
This year's theme for the Panasonic booth was "Panasonic's Smart Life for an Entire Lifestyle." Against the heightened interest in saving energy and electricity caused by the massive Great East Japan Earthquake that struck Japan in March, Panasonic products and services were introduced as being safe, secure, comfortable and enjoyable. Visitors saw how sustainable lifestyles are made possible by connecting a wide range of digital AV equipment and home appliances.
VIERA Connect cloud-based Internet services, which were well received at IFA, and the Room Jump Link (DLNA) demonstration booth were set up at the AV Network Zone. At the FULL HD 3D corner, which showcased the world's largest 152-inch plasma display in the center of the stage, various presentations were given using dynamic FULL HD 3D images.

The AV Network Zone displayed VIERA Connect, a service that has begun in Japan and elsewhere, as well as other DLNA-compatible devices. VIERA Connect, which is already a familiar system in Europe and the United States, was introduced at the AV Network Zone. The service had just begun in Japan on October 4, 2011, and a large crowd of people in front of the display watched and experienced the operating ease and applications with the demo devices on display.
Following their introduction in Europe and the United States, applications such as video-on-demand (VOD), live entertainment, lifestyle information, electronic books and pamphlets, communication, and games will be offered to users in Japan. The number of applications is scheduled to increase greatly in the near future.

The VIERA Remote corner, where VIERA could be easily operated using smartphones, electronic book tablets, iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads. VIERA Remote app is offered both for iOS, and as an application for the Android OS.
This corner introduced Room Jump Link (DLNA). This function uses an optional wireless LAN network to allow TV programs that were recorded onto a Blu-ray Disc™ recorder to be viewed in the living room, bedroom, home office, children's room, etc., without having to use any bothersome cables.

DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) is an industry organization with many home appliance makers and computer manufacturers as members. Devices that comply with the DLNA standard can transfer digital photos, music and videos wirelessly from room to room through a home network, regardless of the device brand or manufacturer.

These are the newest 3D Eyewear models, which were displayed at IFA and released in August. The 3D Eyewear lineup includes three sizes, S, M, and L. All eyewear parts have been re-engineered to achieve a weight of approximately 26g, attaining the world's lightest weight* for eyewear using the active shutter method. Many visitors were so surprised at the light weight that they asked whether the eyewear actually used the active shutter method.
* Lightest active-shutter-method 3D Eyewear in S/M sizes, as of August 1, 2011 (excluding the TY-EW3D3L).

The FULL HD 3D corner attracted lots of attention. Various 3D presentations were given at the stage, showing everything from professional image production sites to household 3D imaging devices.

A plasma display with the world's largest 152-inch 4K2K high-definition panel took center stage, and footage of the Olympic Games and the launch of Atlantis in NASA's final space shuttle mission were shown in dynamic FULL HD 3D images.

Following their display at IFA, images that were captured by a Panasonic AG-3DA1 integrated twin-lens 3D camera recorder onboard Atlantis, which was launched by NASA in July 2011 as their final space shuttle mission, were also shown at CEATEC.

This corner introduced 2D-3D conversion technology. 2D disc media and recorded images can be converted and enjoyed in 3D. It is also possible to finely adjust the sense of depth.
Professional 3D broadcasting devices and household 3D devices were also introduced at the FULL HD 3D corner.

Many of the latest professional 3D broadcasting devices were on display, including the AG-3DP1G integrated twin-lens 3D camera recorder, a 3D-compatible memory card portable recorder, and a multi-format live switcher, which are all expected to support broadcasting operations at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The AG-3DP1G is a integrated twin-lens 3D camera recorder with the same body size as a single-lens camera recorder, and is expected to be widely used in various venues.

Many household devices were also introduced, including the 3D-compatible VIERA, a Blu-ray Disc™ recorder, digital cameras, and camcorders. A wide lineup was offered that lets users shoot, view and save 3D images.

This was the shooting corner for the 3D-compatible LUMIX and camcorders. The HDC-Z10000 integrated twin-lens 2D/3D camera recorder was available for hands-on shooting, marking this model's first-ever public display in Japan. The monitor also enabled a "through connection" capability that allowed visitors wearing 3D Eyewear to see the area around them in real-time 3D.

This is a twin-lens 3D digital camera. It is currently being developed for release in the winter of this year. In addition to still images, it can shoot videos in AVCHD format as well.

Following on the heels of IFA 2011, Panasonic conducted a live stream broadcast from its booth.

We hope you enjoyed yourself! Panasonic will continue to offer an eco-friendly and comfortable Smart AV Life centered around TV. Please look forward to a lot more new ideas to come!
