2011 International CES

CES (Consumer Electronics Show), the world's largest electronics exhibition, which is held each year in early January, took place from January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the U.S. In addition to the newly announced FULL HD 3D LED LCD HDTVs, the focus of interest at this year's Panasonic booth was VIERA Connect, a feature that lets users enjoy a wide range of apps, such as viewing popular professional sports events, gaming, and watching video on demand. There are high expectations for these and other new forms of entertainment, centering on VIERA.

Overview

Date: January 6 (Thursday) to January 9 (Sunday), 2011

Venue: Las Vegas Convention Center (Las Vegas, Nevada, the U.S.)

Number of Exhibiting Companies: Approx. 2,700

The Dynamic FULL HD 3D Presentation Wall

The display far surpassed the scale at both IFA 2010 and CEATEC JAPAN 2010. All 75 screens portrayed highly detailed 3D images precisely synchronized with 3D Eyewear and showing no misalignment or deviation.

A FULL HD 3D Presentation Wall commanded an overwhelming presence at the Panasonic booth. High-resolution 3D images were displayed on the huge wall, which consisted of 75 plasma displays with screen sizes ranging from 42 to 152 inches.

A stage in front of the wall showcased presentations about Panasonic activities and technologies for FULL HD 3D products.

Panasonic 3D Technology Wins the "Charles Wheatstone Award"

In October 2010, the first-ever Charles Wheatstone Award was presented to Panasonic by the International 3D Society (I3DS). This award goes to the company that has contributed the most to the development of 3D technology. The trophy and plaque were prominently displayed at CES.

Activities Leading to Award Reception:
Creating and promoting 3D culture on a global scale and contributing to the development of relevant infrastructure (in particular, with the North American 3D truck tour and European 3D mall tour).

Contribution to the creation of 3D standards for various fields, such as Blu-ray 3D™, 3D capable TVs, and camcorders.

Helping to expand the 3D world by enabling people to not only watch 3D images, but also shoot them.

Another Step Forward for 3D Plasma HDTV

The FULL HD 3D Plasma HDTV has been highly evaluated in countries all over the world. Now, the NeoPlasma panel used in the 2011 models features numerous revisions and improvements in structure and materials over previous panels. This has resulted in further advances in various properties, such as black expression and moving picture resolution. For the viewer, it means even greater detail in both 3D and 2D images.

FULL HD 3D LED LCD HDTVs Debut in North America

Panasonic already offers a wide lineup of 3DTVs, and in 2011, the first-ever FULL HD 3D LED LCD HDTV will be added to the list.

Two screen sizes will be offered in North America, 32 and 37 inches. Further advances in the already highly acclaimed IPS Alpha Panel have enabled the world's fastest motion image response of 2 ms (as of January 6, 2011, according to a Panasonic survey). This makes it possible to reproduce fast motion with remarkable clarity, which was a weakness in previous LCD displays. Double images are minimized and clear motion images are achieved for both 2D and 3D images.

Here's Panasonic's First Tablet!

The VIERA Tablet received plenty of attention both at press conferences and at the Panasonic booth. The booth displayed 10-inch, 7-inch and 4-inch prototypes.

A wide range of apps were proposed for the VIERA Tablet. A visual remote control demo showed how you can simply touch the thumbnail image of a TV program on the VIERA Tablet while aiming the tablet at a VIERA TV to change the channel to that program. You can also view the images on the VIERA Tablet from a different angle than the images displayed on the large VIERA screen, and use the VIERA Tablet to directly purchase merchandise related to the program that you are watching.

Real-time 3D Images Displayed on VIERA

The digital imaging corner was featured once again, following its appearance at IFA 2010 and CEATEC JAPAN 2010. A huge sand art installation served as the subject for trial shooting with 3D compatible camcorders and LUMIX cameras. The 3D images that were taken were displayed in real-time on a FULL HD 3D VIERA TV.
