Enlarged Discharge Area
The new cell structure, materials and phosphors made it possible to enlarge the discharge area of each cell. This increases both brightness and contrast, so you enjoy a bright, vibrant picture while using less energy.

Reduced Pre-Discharge
To minimize light leakage, we found a way to reduce the level of pre-discharge required for plasma light emission. This helps achieve deeper, richer blacks that give images exceptional depth and presence.

A New Filter
A newly developed film minimizes reflection from ambient lighting and increases contrast. It also improves light transmittance, which boosts brightness. The result is reproduction of images that look breathtakingly beautiful in any viewing environment.

Our IPS Panel, already known for its superior light transmittance and wide viewing angle, is even better than before thanks to our use of a brighter, more efficient LED backlight. The A.I. technology senses and analyzes the image, then adjusts the backlight accordingly to further boost contrast. This helps achieve both unsurpassed image quality and superb energy efficiency.

IPS Panel
The IPS panel in 2010 VIERA models is an LCD panel that provides beautiful viewing from virtually any angle. Colors appear uniform and consistent even when viewed from a wide angle, so images look fresh and natural no matter where you're sitting. The panel's high light transmittance also maximizes the efficiency of the LED backlight.

LED Backlight

Intelligent Scene Controller
Intelligent A.I. conducts a detailed analysis of image motion and brightness information to optimize the backlight brightness. This creates sharp images by faithfully reproducing the brightness of each scene while keeping the power consumption low.
