The Panasonic brand name was created in 1955 and was first used as a brand for audio speakers. It is a combination of the words, "Pan", and "Sonic", sound and has a meaning of bringing sound our Company creates to the world.

Since 2008, it is used as the corporate brand representing the Company, products and services.

Region-Specific Brand for Japan

National

The National brand name was first employed for square battery-powered bicycle lamps in 1927.

The founder, Konosuke Matsushita, chose "National" as the trademark, hoping to make this an essential product for the "Nation".

Upon a company name change, the 'National' brand, which had been used for home appliances and household equipment since 2003 in Japan, will be unified to the 'Panasonic' brand by the end of fiscal 2009.
