Unify Company Name and Brand

In order to build solid brand strength globally toward nextgeneration growth, Matsushita Electric will change its company name from Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd to "Panasonic Corporation."

Company president, Fumio Ohtsubo announced the company name change in the management policy for fiscal 2009, in January 10, 2008.

Upon a company name change, the company will undertake its brand name change for the Japanese market, unifying the brands to "Panasonic" both in Japan and overseas.
Accordingly, most of companies in its group which use "Matsushita" or "National" in their current company names will also change their names using "Panasonic." Matsushita Electric Works will become "Panasonic Electric Works."
The company name change, that will be submitted for and subject to approval at the ordinary general meeting of shareholders to be held in late June this year. This change will be effective in October 2008 throughout the group.
The company will also undertake its brand name change upon the company name change. After it is fully prepared in terms of logistics and product marketing strategies, the brands will be unified by the end of fiscal 2010.

Through these changes, the company aims to further strengthen the unity throughout the group under one brand "Panasonic," thereby enhancing the value of the brand.
The company does not regard the name "Matsushita" and the "National" brand as its own, since these have been loved and supported by its customers and business partners over a long period of time.
Therefore, the company has a responsibility to create more value than it loses as a result of these changes.
The company will not change its management philosophy that "It exists to carry out business activities that contribute to the society all the time."
It aims to realize a truly "Global Panasonic" where the entire group is unified with strong ties, supported by the brand strength at world's top level.
