Environmental Activities - Clean Factories

Panasonic is working towards the creation of "true zero emission" factories in all aspects -not only in waste, but also in GHG emissions, and the use of chemical substances and water during the production processes. We will ensure compatibility between environmental impact reduction and enhanced economic performance.

Amid a global focus on the climate change issue, governments around the world and international organizations are stepping up their efforts. For instance, IPCC’s fourth report and the G8 Summit held in Heiligendamm Germany adovocated "50% reduction of GHG emissions by 2050 compared to a present level‚ and APEC announced the "Sydney Declaration" aiming for Energy efficiency improvement by 25% in the APEC region by the end of 2030 compared to a 2005 level.

Panasonic supports these approaches to tackle global warming. As a first step to accelerate its environmental sustainability management focusing on global warming prevention, Panasonic announced a new environmental strategy called "eco ideas" Strategy on October 5th 2007. In that announcement, we committed ourselves to reducing an absolute amount of CO2 emissions by 300,000 tons between fiscal year (FY) 2008 (starting on April 1st 2007 and ending on March 31st 2008) to FY2010 compared to FY 2007 level. In addition to it, we also promised to lower CO2 emissions to the level of FY 2001 by the end of FY 2011 which is equal to 12% reduction in an absolute amount and 36.3% reduction in per basic unit, compared to the level of FY 2004.
