‘eco ideas’ Declaration in Latin America

Aiming to become the No. 1 Green Innovation Company in the Electronics Industry in Latin America, Panasonic announced the ‘eco ideas’ Declaration for the region in Costa Rica on Apr 22, in Mexico on Apr 22, and in Brazil on Apr. 29.

The Declaration in Latin America followed those adopted in Europe in October 2008 and in Asia Pacific in June 2009. Panasonic has been leading environmental initiatives that are tailored to the local conditions in these regions. The pledge in Latin America underscores Panasonic's commitment to spread environmentally-conscious products in the Latin American countries, as well as reducing CO2 emissions from production activities. In addition, Panasonic will lead the environmental conservation efforts in cooperation with local communities.

Targets in ‘eco ideas’ Declaration in Latin America

‘eco ideas’ for Lifestyles: Aiming to increase products with industry-leading environmental performance in Latin America

  • Doubling the regional sales of products with industry-leading environmental performance by March 2013 (compared to a level of the fiscal year ended March 2010)

‘eco ideas’ for Business-styles: Aiming to reducing CO2 emissions from production activities and implementing business activities open to local communities.

  1. Reducing total CO2 emissions from production activities by 10% by March 2013 (compared to the fiscal year ended in March 2006)
  2. Developing ‘eco ideas’ Factory * in Latin American region by March 2012
  3. Contributing to local communities by taking initiatives in driving environment-conscious activities together with the residents.

*The ‘eco ideas’ Factory is a model factory which lives in harmony with local communities and stakeholders, as well as embodies Panasonic’s environmental strategy with two key initiatives; ‘eco ideas’ for Lifestyles and ‘eco ideas’ for Business-styles.

Declaration announcement event in Brazil

In Costa Rica, Panasonic held the announcement event in the Area de Conservación Guanacaste, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Director Uji of the Corporate Management Division for Latin America declared, "We at Panasonic will expand our array of environmentally-conscious products, strongly promote further CO2 reductions in our production activities, and work with community to devote energy into our environmental conservation activities."

Two days after in Mexico, a convention consisted of further announcement of the ‘eco ideas’ Declaration in Latin America and introductions of Panasonic's latest products was taken place, and 100 journalists and some 150 dealers from all over Mexico attended the event.

In Sao Paulo, Brazil, the venue for the presentation was a hall situated on the same complex as the famous Estádio do Pacaembu football stadium.
The meeting was attended by over 100 people, including 37 members of the press . Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior of Santos FC, a new ambassador for the Panasonic brand appeared at the event alongside children of PANABRAS employees. In the event, he said “it’s great honor that I was appointed to the brand ambassador of Panasonic, which takes a lead in environmental activities with cutting-edge technologies”.
