Communication

To promote our environmental activities it is essential to enhance our employees' awareness for the environment. With this in mind, we focus our activities on our daily lives so that employees will feel closer to their environmental problems.

Environmental Photo Competition

Our environmental photo competition has been held since 2007 with an aim to have our employees feel the importance of the environment by taking environment-related photos and seeing many photos themselves.
We displayed photos on a panel till 2012 for visitors to the exhibition to see the impressive work of photos. In 2013, we started to release photos on the Internet so that many more people can enjoy them.

With the beautiful colors of a graceful sea turtle swimming through crystal-clear water, this photo imparts on the viewer the importance of protecting the beautiful sea as seen through the eyes of a turtle under a blanket of sky and clouds.

Deep blue silence
Deep blue silence
I saw a young sea turtle in the transparent deep-blue ocean. In complete silence, where I could hear nothing, I saw him leisurely swimming away. The encounter took place just 50 m from the shore. The marine environment is well preserved here.

Review

This photo shows environmental pollution in a developing country against a beautiful sunset. An observation on the visible richness of life and the invisible loneliness of living, this photo and its accompanying comment imparts a positive outlook to the viewer.

Evening in Penang
This seemingly scenic view is actually the ocean polluted by humans. I hope someday people will clean the water and I want to see the clear ocean in the real sunset, not with deceptive light control.

Review

More than simply a portrait of a world of fantastic light, this photo conveys both the critical situation of a disappearing food culture in Japan and the concerns of overfishing.

Young eel fishing
Young eel fishing
In recent years, young eel fishing has been sluggish nationwide because of overfishing, their deteriorating habitat and other causes. I heard the fish catch, which was over 200 tons at the peak of the 1960s, has fallen below 10 tons. The fish is on the endangered species list.

Illustrating the lives of those who inherit nature's blessing, this photo instills in the viewer a longing to go and explore the lifestyle on the other side of the lens.

Xijiang Miao Village one thousand Kobe
Xijiang Miao Village one thousand Kobe
Xijiang Miao Village one thousand Kobe, which has a 200- to 300-year history, is well known for the village of Miao Tribes. It is said that the name of one thousand Kobe comes from 1100 registered households. The people are honest and simple. The ecologically well-balanced village is a comfortable place to live and a good tourist destination as well.

Life blooms
Life blooms
I shot the little flowers on a river bank with the Tokai region's well-known industrial district in the background. The factories are a symbol of our economic activities, while the flowers are the global environment deteriorating in exchange for such activities. The objects seemingly contrast, but the co-existence with the global environment that we should aim for is their combination. Seeking solutions for that is our mission for future generations. That is my message carried in the photo.

I applied because I was deeply moved by the beauty of lit-up colored leaves. My feeling there in the clear air, with the trees shining and covered in bright red is what I wanted others to see and hoped to keep forever.

Dawn at lotus fields
Dawn at lotus fields
This is the red sky at dawn over the Karasuma Peninsula, known as one of the largest habitats of lotus flowers in Japan. This year we couldn't see the usual scene of the green lotus leaves clustered along the edges of the lake and the pink flowers covering the water surface. The real cause has yet to be identified. It will reportedly take decades to restore the original state.

In spite of being a popular tourist spot, Kamikouchi preserves nature so well that wild monkeys show up close to walking paths fearlessly. One afternoon I watched little monkeys playing with each other with the leaves shining translucently as backlight.

Life found in Satoyama with clear rivers
If closely observed, even ordinary events or scenes can surprise me by showing how lively people, insects and plants are while living their lives. The moments I overlook in everyday life can be seized and a whole new world discovered just by stopping for a while. This discovery may be the benefit of taking pictures, and my habit of looking for a good photo composition anywhere.

A village of thatched-roof houses with flying carp streamers, its gentleness and peacefulness embraced by majestic green mountains. The clear blue sky spreads in contrast to the mountain green. Every element is indispensable to form the scenery. Everything is connected. During my time here, I realized everything from families, organizations, societies to the world should be in that way.
