Communication

To promote our environmental activities it is essential to enhance our employees' awareness for the environment. With this in mind, we focus our activities on our daily lives so that employees will feel closer to their environmental problems.

Environmental Photo Competition

Our environmental photo competition has been held since 2007 with an aim to have our employees feel the importance of the environment by taking environment-related photos and seeing many photos themselves.
We displayed photos on a panel till 2012 for visitors to the exhibition to see the impressive work of photos. In 2013, we started to release photos on the Internet so that many more people can enjoy them.

Here are the excellent works of the Environmental Photo Competition 2013. We would be glad if the photos are seen by as many people as possible to appreciate and cherish the significance of good environment.

Since I started taking pictures, I was surprised to see so many white-eyes. I had little chance to see them when I was a child. I realized that the nature is reviving.

A Kingfisher Basking in the Sun
A Kingfisher Basking in the Sun
A kingfisher is a bird of Hirakata also called "blue jewel". The bird is basking in the sun perching on a branch of a tree at the Shimin no Mori (Kyouden-ike [pond]).
Since a kingfisher lives in the circumstance where there is a clear stream, it serves as a barometer for environmental pollution.

Cyathea Tree Reaching to the Sky (a Species Unique to Ogasawara)
There are many animals and plants that live only in Ogasawara. A cyathea tree is one of them and a kind of tree fern. There are also many endangered species. When I come to Ogasawara, I can't help thinking that it is our responsibility to keep protecting their lives.

Animals and Nature Coexisting Harmoniously
Animals and Nature Coexisting Harmoniously
When scenery like a beautiful painting enters the eye, bright blue skies, crystal clear lake water, and cattle and sheep grazing hills and plains, one canít help but to express emotions: When there is no pollution, everything can be beautiful and harmonious like that scenery and all of our surroundings can also be peaceful. Cattle and sheep on the hillside observed from a distance, “selfishly” hope they can occupy the pure land forever. Perhaps only if they occupy the land forever, can this harmonious scenery continue on.

This is a picture of Southern Alps on a fine summer day. I took the picture of the contrast between the white summit of Mt. Kaikomagatake that looks like covered by snow, the red berry of rowan, green of the forest and the blue midsummer sky.

Huge Cedar in Ichifusa - Emotional Recovery by Forest Therapy -
Since I started mountain climbing from a few years ago, I once again had a greater opportunity to feel with my skin the wonderfulness of nature in Kumamoto. Especially, alongside of the approach to Ichifusayama Shrine located at the hillside of Mt. Ichifusayama, there are about 50 big cedars that are more than 800 years old, among which there is about 1,000 years old cedar with the height of 50m and the length of 10m around the trunk.

Rhyothemis Fuliginosa at the Kadoma Biotope
Rhyothemis fuliginosa came flying to Kadoma Biotope. Its feathers with black luster are as big as a butterfly. I heard that it's the most beautiful dragonfly in Japan and it seems to be the threatened endangered species in Tokyo. I hope the Biotope can contribute to preventing it from becoming extinct.

This was a family vacation to Glacier National Park, my favorite park. The glacier which are located in the far mountains have been receding for many years and some have been eliminated due to the climate changes. The photos taken over the last 150 years dramatically shows the impact from the climate changes.

Traces of Torrential Rain
Traces of Torrential Rain
This is a picture of the bridge commonly called Nagare Bashi that was swept away by the torrential rain. This bridge has distinct structure, i.e. when the river is swollen due to a typhoon or torrential rain, its bridge beam is swept away. The bridge beam was also swept away by the torrential rain caused by the typhoon No. 18 last year.
According to the record, during 60 years since the bridge was completed in 1953, the bridge beam was swept away 20 times, which means it was swept away once every three years. What's happening now is that the bridge beam was swept away seven times during the past decade and, especially during the recent three years, it has been swept away every year. We can't suppress the tendency of abnormal weather events at any cost.
