Japan has become a super-aging society where the ratio of people aged 65 or older to the total population currently exceeds 21%. An increasing number of seniors use long-term care insurance.
Given this social background, families who are taking care of the elderly are in need of business operators who are familiar with long-term care insurance, with an accurate understanding of the symptoms or physical status, which is different for every person, and then provide the necessary high-quality nursing-care services.
To respond to this need, we must cooperate with care managers, who play a central role in long-term care insurance, and also doctors, physical and occupational therapists, nurses, helpers and public administrators, and then establish the structures required to appropriately provide the necessary range of long-term care insurance-based services as a one-stop service throughout the lives of elderly people.
It was in 1999, before the start of Long-Term Care Insurance, that Panasonic launched a project to develop a nursing-care store franchise business. First, we placed importance on listening to the concerns and troubles faced by people in need of care. After establishing a nursing-care store in Suita City, Osaka, we contacted some seniors, started providing services on a trial basis, and studied their various challenges. For example, we carefully analyzed situations how the physical conditions of the senior changed due to aging, such as changes in grip strength and walking posture, and how the field of vision narrowed.
Home remodeling for nursing care requires knowledge of architecture as well as long-term care. For example, a single handrail built as part of a home renovation project can make a person independent and his or her life safer. Panasonic trains and develops experts in home remodeling for nursing care, called "living environment planners," who are qualified to work as architects and in long-term care service. We have dispatched approximately 100 planners to FC stores throughout the country. We build long-term relationships of trust by providing home remodeling for nursing care based on construction circumstances and the physical conditions of the individual.

What we have learned by providing long-term care services to seniors is that those who receive care want to receive long-term care from people who understand them well throughout their lives. To achieve this, we must continue to provide services not intermittently but continuously. Through services ranging from home renovation and sales of nursing care products necessary for bathing and toilet support to rentals of wheelchairs and care beds, Panasonic has established a system with which to provide long-term one-stop services.
A trend is underway to start building serviced housing for the elderly, where 24/7/365 services are available in each community. This means that a new option has been added for customers who face the challenges of long-term care. Panasonic will merge the various aspects of human-services know-how accumulated through the operation of private nursing-care homes, such as the Age-Free Life Owada/Hoshigaoka, and home care service business, to provide careful support to those in need of long-term care at assisted-living for the elderly.
Panasonic operates community-based nursing care services throughout the country. By increasing the synergistic effect through various services, such as nursing-care stores, home care services and operation of elderly-care facilities, we provide convenient, high quality long-term care service to elderly people and their families. We meet all needs through these activities and offer sustainable solutions by providing innovative products/services that are not offered by other companies.
Installation of handrails is the simplest and most fundamental home renovation. Even a single handrail can give a person independence and make his or her life safer. There are three major purposes to installing handrails: 1. To support walking, 2. To support overall mobility and 3. To prevent falls. However, there may be cases where handrails would impede movement or create risks for the elderly if we chose an inappropriate type or an inappropriate installation location. It is important to ask for advice from reliable and experienced agents who possess expertise on renovations that facilitate nursing care.
This is a term used in Panasonicís nursing care business that refers to remodeling design experts with knowledge of welfare and architecture.
These individuals are qualified to work as architects and welfare living environment coordinators. They can improve the living environment of seniors who need nursing care and their families by addressing their problems. If necessary, they collaborate with doctors, physical and occupational therapists, nurses, helpers and public administrators when they perform remodeling for nursing care and select welfare tools.
