Our majestic planet Earth is home to many living organisms. But its beautiful nature is being destroyed. Due to the excessive amount of CO2 we emit continues to push up the Earth's temperature to a higher level… So, what will become of our planet? How can we save our planet? What can we do to save it?

--- What can we do? We can generates ideas that will benefit the environment and tackle the things we can do one by one. Panasonic has committed to 3 eco ideas this October to reduce CO2 emissions in every area of its business activities.

slide02

First is the "eco ideas" for products. Panasonic believes that it is especially important to equip home electronics with energy-saving capabilities since we use them daily. Panasonic hopes to manufacture more of the top energy-efficient products from among 1,000 types of different products it manufactures, whilst halting production of products with low energy-efficiencies.

slide03

Next is "eco ideas" for manufacturing. Panasonic will make efforts to reduce CO2 emission as well as to improve productivity in all manufacturing processes, from product planning, manufacturing, distribution, to recycling. Panasonic undertakes globally to reduce CO2 emissions by 300,000 tons over the next 3 years.

The third commitment is "eco ideas" for everybody, everywhere. Panasonic's 330,000 employees and their families will practice eco ideas at work and at home, and with the cooperation of the regional community they will help magnify such eco activities and spread it across the world. These 3 are Panasonic's eco ideas. And this mark is its symbol. It is packed full of ideas that have been generated by Panasonic's employees, which will help preserve the global environment. Let us introduce a few of them.

Pa-look Ball Premier <Lighting Company - Noriyuki Uchida>
My eco idea is…this. I thought to myself… there are light bulbs in almost every home. If we could make those energy-efficient, we can help reduce CO2 emissions.

--- After years of research, Mr. Uchida finally successfully invented the "spiral process" that made reshaping energy-efficient fluorescent light bulbs to fit inside a normal light bulb possible. He created a dream-come-true light bulb that offers the same brightness, but only consumes 10W of energy, and has a lifespan that is 10 times longer.

slide06
Lifinity Eco Management System <Matsushita Electric Works, Ltd. - Akiko/Shoko Okamura>
My eco idea is… If we could make the amount of the power consumed at home visible, every one in the family may become more conscious about energy efficiency.

--- Ms. Okamura has developed a system by which everyone can easily check the amount of power consumed by the air conditioner, lighting etc. The system made it fun to be energy-conscious with the help of these cute penguins.

slide07
Lead-Free Plasma Display Panels <Panasonic AVC Networks Company - Akira Kawase>
This is my eco idea. "Lead" is necessary to produce plasma display panels, but is there any other material that can serve as a green substitute?

--- Mr. Kawase spent day after day searching for a new material. Finally, he discovered a substitute for lead, and successfully produced the world's first lead-free plasma display panel.

slide08
Recycle <Matsushita Eco-Technology Center Co., Ltd. - Nobutaka Tutsumi>
Our eco idea is… this. What if we could reuse the materials from products we have collected and create something new…

--- Panasonic is the first electronics manufacturer, which has established a recycling plant with a research laboratory. It recycles the products collected keeping reusability ideas in mind, and makes effective use of materials in product manufacturing. For example, 3,000 tons of collected plastic has been transformed into new home electronics products.

slide09
LE (Love the Earth) Activities <Corporate Environmental Affairs Division - Tomoe/Chie Abe>
This is my eco idea. I thought that if Panasonic employees and their families practiced eco-life all over the world, we could help reduce a considerable amount of CO2 emissions…

--- Ms. Abe proposed this large-scale project that involves 130,000 employees in Japan and China. They all engaged in eco activities such as carrying eco bags and using public transportation. In 1 year such activities will help reduce 9,300 tons of CO2 emissions.

So what did you think? Panasonic hopes that each and every one of its employees will get involved in CO2 emission reductions each offering a different perspectives, and that they will contribute to preventing global warming. "eco ideas" for products, "eco ideas" for manufacturing, and "eco ideas" for everybody, everywhere - with these in mind, Panasonic will aspire to "lead the way with its eco ideas."
