Energy Saving
The Panasonic Group has initiated a new index, "size of contribution in reducing CO2 emissions" since FY2011 and tackled continued activities to improve our energy saving constitution. The Company achieved 940,000 tons of size of contribution in reducing CO2 emissions in FY2012.
Size of contribution in reducing CO2 emissions
The size of contribution in reducing CO2 emissions is defined by the following formula;
CO2 reduction contribution during the applicable fiscal year (base: FY2006) = (Basic unit per production of FY2006 - Basic unit per production of the applicable fiscal year) X Production output of the applicable fiscal year
Major activities
- Establishment of the CO2 Reduction Promotion Committee
- Information sharing, horizontal spread and high standardization between each operational site
- Performance control and steady promotion of plans by visualizing the performances
- Strengthening energy saving activities in the overseas operational sites
Case examples of energy saving activities
The CO2 emissions reduced in FY2012 were 47,000 tons (4% in emissions) through efforts including the energy saving measures listed below that were globally promoted.
- Introduction of high efficient equipments
- Introduction of electric typed module chillers and inverter compressors
- Adoption of electrification on molding machines
- Adoption of LED lights
- Thoroughgoing elimination of wasteful energy
- Stoppage of power during non production hours such as night time or non-work day
- Countermeasures on air and steam leakages
- Adoption of heat insulation and recovery of exhaust heat
- Thinning out of lights or optimization of illuminance
- Reduction the unit of vending machines
- Improvement of process and productivity
- Lowering the oven temperature or reducing process by changing materials
- Improving cycle times and yields for production machines
- Increasing the number of dies
- Improvement on control methods
- Adoption of inverter system for air conditioning fans and pumps
- Applying unit control for compressors and refrigerators
