ePassport (eMRP) Reader VT-L7M2-01

Outline
ePassport Reader – Achieves faster reading with the proprietary circuit
Just lay it down! ePassport Reader reads characters/IC data in only 3 seconds.
* Reading time depends on the passport.
While the number of passengers using international airlines is increasing, stricter immigration checks are required as one of the antiterrorism efforts. Panasonic has taken the initiative in emigration and immigration checks as a leading maker of an eMRP reader. We quickly responded to the ePassport specified by ICAO.
The ePassport Reader, developed from our accumulated technology and experience, realizes efficient processing and saves labor for travel business and services.
Fast reading
1 second for characters ;
2 seconds for IC data
The ePassport Reader shoots the information including passport number and photo in 0.1 seconds and outputs it in 1 second. It reads IC data in 2 seconds (for Japan IC passport). For a general eMRP reader, the processing time depends on the performance of a PC because OCR and BAC(*1) are executed by software on the PC. Meanwhile, ePassport Reader from Panasonic executes OCR and BAC on a dedicated circuit within the eMRP reader for faster processing. The reader can be introduced easily because it does not depend on the PC.
Pursuing high speed with proprietary technology
OCR and the contactless IC reader module were developed from our proprietary technology. The collaboration realizes fast, efficient reading.
Easy operation
Highly accurate OCR reads data even not
optimally arranged
The unit can read data even when it moves by a few millimeters from the glass surface. You don't have to press even a warped brochure onto the glass surface. In addition, the rotation function enables accurate reading even when the target is at an angle.
User-friendly light-tight coverless design
The typical eMRP reader has a light-tight cover, which gets in the way of laying the passport down. Panasonic's wide dynamic range sensor has a user-friendly design that enables accurate reading regardless of the state of the beam, which eliminates the need for a light-tight cover.
Extensive experience and know-how
We have delivered 200,000 IC-reading modules for a variety of uses. We provide designs that support different types of OCR characters and IC characteristics based on this extensive expertise. Even a passport slightly deviating from the ICAO standard can be read.
- The infrared flash lamp completes OCR imaging in only 0.1 seconds. No imaging blurring occurs with the passport.

How Panasonic Approaches the MRP Reader
Development based on
listening to what users say
In the 20 years since Panasonic began to supply immigration authorities with the world's first high-speed, camera-type passport image reader, we have worked to make our readers more accurate, faster, and easier to use, plus smaller and more portable as well. We listen carefully to what users say as we continue research and development on even better devices.
Participation in
standardization projects
For more than a decade, Panasonic has participated numerous times in compatibility tests to ensure that ePassport readers satisfy international standards.
