Answer... The network camera recorder (BB-HNP11/HNP15) can record audio as well as video data. (In case of BB-HNP11, the recording resolution of 1280 x 1024 and MPEG-4 are not supported. In case of BB-HNP15, the recording resolution of 1280 x 1024 in MPEG-4 is not supported.

Answer... You can record audio as well as video data in MPEG-4 mode. (You can record only video data in JPEG mode.)
No.3 How are the HCM5xx series different from previous models (HCM3xx series)? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... HCM5xx series have some differences shown below:

  • Supports PoE or can use an optional AC adaptor.

Answer... MPEG-4 is one of compressing formats and part of MPEG standard.
It is used for movie transfer with high compression ratio in low speed communication line such as mobile phone or analog telephone line.
No.5 When I buy the camera, how many licenses are included? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... One camera includes only one license.
No.6 How can I see the JPEG images? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras] [FAQ: BB_HCM3xxcameras]
Answer... Please follow the steps below.
  • Access the camera from PC.
  • The first time you select [MPEG-4] as the [Refresh Rate], you can install the ActiveX control.
    When you finish installing the ActiveX control, you can view Motion JPEG images of the camera.
    The installation of the ActiveX control is required only the first time.

No.7 How can I see the MPEG-4 images? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... Please follow the steps below:
  • Access the camera from PC.
  • The first time you select [MPEG-4] as the [Refresh Rate], a license agreement is displayed. Select [I accept the License agreement], then click [OK]. You will then be prompted to install the viewer program (ActiveX Controls).
    When you finish installing the ActiveX control, you can view MPEG-4 images of the camera.
    The installation of the ActiveX control is required only the first time.

No.8 Are the ActiveX's for JPEG and MPEG-4 different? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... Yes, they use different ActiveX control programs.
No.9 Do I need a license to view JPEG images? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras] [FAQ: BB_HCM3xxcameras]
Answer... You do not need a license.
No.10 What does splash resistant mean? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... The splash resistant body will endure water being splashed on it but not being submerged in water or under high water pressure. It is recommended to install the camera under an eave.
No.11 Is it OK if I put the camera in cold or in direct sunlight for a great length of time? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... Basically the camera can endure some conditions:
(We cannot answer exact period of durability since other conditions, such as influences of ultraviolet ray or acid rain, have an effect on the camera.)
  • Recommended conditions and setting places:
    Operating temperature: -20°C (-4°F) to +50°C (+122°F)
    Operating Humidity: 20% - 90% (no condensation)
  • Avoid installing in direct sunlight or rain.
  • Avoid installing near salt water (ocean) or in a sulfurous environment (such as a spa).

Answer... This feature lets you have walkie-talkie type communication between camera and PC.
  • You can listen to the audio received by the built-in microphone (or a microphone connected to the external microphone jack) of camera by using PC. Your voice can be heard from an external speaker to the camera.

No.13 What do I need for 2-way audio communication? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... You should connect an external speaker to the camera and connect a microphone to the PC.
No.14 Can I have conversation or TV conference by using network camera? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... We do not recommend the camera for conversation or TV conference.
It can be useful for calling out or directing another person.
  • The camera does not support QoS to avoid voice interruption. It does not have a function for feedback protection. It is walkie-talkie type communication.

No.15 Can the camera's audio feature work on mobile phone? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... No.
This feature works only on a PC.
No.16 Is there any delay of audio? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... [JPEG]
  • The camera does not synchronizer voice with image.
  • The camera is buffering audio in order to reduce the voice interruption, therefore delay of voice may occur.
  • The delay time depends on the network conditions, it may be about a few seconds.
  • The voice and images are almost simultaneous because the camera synchronizes by using timestamp.

No.17 Will you support MPEG-4 with HCM3xx series? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... We do not have a plan to support MPEG-4 with previous models.
No.18 What is the range of the built-in microphone? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
  • The range that you can listen to a human voice is about 5m in quiet environment. (It is dependant on the circumstances.)
  • If you wish to expand the monitoring range, you can use an external microphone.

No.19 Do I need any optional cable for data transfer? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... You do not need any optional cable since data transfer and power supply is passed through Ethernet cable connected to the camera.
No.20 It says that the power supplied through the Ethernet cable can reach up to 100m. If I go beyond 100m, what will happen? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... It may work beyond 100m but we cannot guarantee it since 100m is the Ethernet standard.
No.21 Please describe brightness of 0.2 to 10 lux. [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras] [FAQ: BB_HCM3xxcameras]
  • 0.2 lux: full moon light
  • 1 lux: approximately the same as the brightness of a candle 1 m (3 ft.) away in a dark room.
  • 5 to 10 lux: under the streetlight of one fluorescent lamp at a height of 5m.
  • 5 lux: on the ground.
  • 8 lux: at a height of 1m.
  • 10 lux: at a height of 1.6m.

Answer... The camera supports full-screen display of monitor images. Even the smallest details can easily be monitored on this large display screen. You can use this function with both single and multi camera monitoring.

Answer... By connecting a cable directly to the TV, not via network, you can monitor the camera.
The video output is compatible with both NTSC and PAL systems.
No.24 Does the camera (HCM5xx series) have pan/tilt functions? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... You can operate the camera not only with digital zoom but also pan/tilt.
Pan (horizontal) area: -60 degree to +60 degree
Tilt (vertical) area: -45 degree to +20 degree

Answer... The camera supports 10x digital zoom (by area), so you can get a close, detailed look at certain parts of the images while you are monitoring.
No.26 What is the viewing angle? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... The viewing angle is the visual range of the camera.
No.27 What is multi-camera? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... You can monitor up to 9 cameras and display them all at once with moving images and audio by registering the addresses of all other cameras.
With this function, you can have:
  • audio 2-way communication (walkie-talkie type)
  • multi camera display of 4 or 9 cameras (with 2-way communication)
  • multi camera display of 16 cameras with still images (without 2-way communication)

No.28 Which cameras can be register as multi camera? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... Any BB-HCM, BB-HCE, BB-HCS, KX-HCM and BL-C series camera can be registered with multi camera.
No.29 How is the camera protected from unauthorized use? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
Answer... By using IPV6 protocol, the possibility of unauthorized access will be reduced.
  • Create an ID and password to be as long as possible. More than 6 digits are required.
  • There is some risk of unauthorized access if using the same fixed IP address continuously.
    Meanwhile, in case of using DDNS service such as Viewnetcam, IP address will be changed at very reconnection to ISP, the risk of unauthorized access will be reduced.
    For reducing unexpected access, it is recommended to change IP address, port number, domain name, ID and/or password periodically, and to use well controlled ID, password and domain name.

No.30 Can the cameras be used on any kind of network? [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras]
  • Camera can be used at always-on connection, such as ADSL, CATV and/or FTTH.
  • Camera may not work on some networks connected to proxy server.
  • Viewnetcam cannot work at network which is defined private address.
  • Camera can work within LAN without any limitation; this is as same as other network equipment.

No.31 Camera cannot be accessed by the URL of viewnetcam. [FAQ: BB_HCM5xxcameras] [FAQ: BB_HCM3xxcameras]
Answer... Viewnetcam server does not receive information of IP address from camera.
  • Check if camera is registered to viewnetcam server correctly.
  • Change DDNS status of Viewnetcam service to be "active", if it is "inactive".
