Difference form Other Phones

1. How is GLOBARANGE different from a conventional phone
  • It's like a conventional phone that also lets you simultaneously use an IP phone line. It has a full range of telephone specifications.

2. How is it different from other IP phones (like Vonage or Skype)?
  • There's no need for a cotract to start with. And you can continue to use your landline if you want to.
  • Set-up is extremely easy.
  • Calls between Globarange phones are free for the first 3 years even international calls.
  • You do not need to install software, or registration, or fear of information security. It can be used as a conventional phone.
  • Unlike Internet phones, there's no need for a contract, and you can simultaneously receive calls on both lines using a handset or using the base unit for the built-in speakerphone model.)

1. How do I get a second phone number from joip?
  • You have to subscribe to a registered service by selecting one of joip's service plans. Details are found on the joip website - www.joip.com

2. How would I know if someone else has a GLOBARANGE phone or phone number?
  • joip has a feature called Community Directory, where you can search online for your joip friends and add them to your phonebook or make a Web joip call to reach them. This feature is free. For more details, visit www.joip.com

3. What happens to the free service after you use the phone for three years?
  • joip grants you three years of free service and aspires to extend its free service. During these three years joip in particular and the VoIP market in general will evolve and release new features and technologies. joip will continue to study the market trends and at the end of three years decide whether to extend the period of its free service.

4. Does the phone have 911 support on the GLOBARANGE line?
  • Even if you select the IP line, the landline is automatically used when dialing emergency phone numbers, such as 911.
    NOTE: Phone must be connected to a LANDLINE in order to dial emergency numbers.
  • If you want to make 911 calls using the joip line, a Registered Service is required. For assistance, visit www.joip.com.

5. The GT1500 does not have an answering machine. Can I use the joip service for this instead?
  • Yes, joip offers advanced Voice Mail capabilities which allows you to listen to your messages both through your phone and joip Member Center when you are away from your phone. In addition you can get email notification whenever a voice message arrives. To learn more login to www.joip.com.

6. Can I get custom ringtones for my handsets?
  • Yes custom music ringtones will be available from www.joip.com.

7. What are the features that come with the Basic Service (free service)?

8. Can I send text message to other joip users from my handset?
  • No, you can send text messages to other joip users from the joip Member Center. And you can receive text messages from other joip users on your handset. An alert will tell you when you have a new text message.

9. Can I call any phone or just joip phones?
  • You can call just joip to joip for 3 years free if you do not have a Registered Service. If you do have a Registered Service you can call and receive from any VoIP and landline phone using the IP line.

10. How do I send joip text messages?
  • To send joip text messages you must log in at www.joip.com and you must have a Registered Service.

11. How much does it cost to call countries other than the 12 service countries through a joip line? And how do you make those calls?
  • Though joip you can call to any destination worldwide. You are not limited to the 12 countries where the GLOBARANGE phone is launched. By subscribing to joip's Service Plans you can enjoy extremely low rates. To learn the exact rates offered by joip, please www.joip.com.

How to use GLOBARANGE

1. How do I make joip calls?
  • If you have a joip Registered Service (a cost is involved) you can call any landline or VoIP phone if you do not then you can make only joip to joip calls. To make a joip to joip call you must dial # and then dial the 10 digit number and press [IP]. To make other calls you dial the number and then press [IP].

2. Can I have a technical overview of how joip works?
  • When you make calls with joip, a type of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service, your voice will be sent as data packets over the Internet to the destination where they are converted into voice. Basically, you can make Internet calls using the joip service virtually the same as using a landline, but unlike other VoIP services, the setup is a lot simpler and a computer isn't needed.

3. How do I get my joip number and password?
  • After the installation is complete, the phone is registered to the service and your joip number is displayed on the handset. You also receive both your joip number and password via text message sent to your handset. It is recommended to save these messages as you will need them in order to login to your joip account at www.joip.com.

4. Can I have 2 GLOBARANGE base units for one joip account?
  • We recommend installing only one Panasonic GLOBARANGE phone base unit. If you install more than one joip system with one account, you may not be able to make or receive Internet calls properly. However, each Panasonic GLOBARANGE base is capable of having 8 handsets. Additional handsets can be bought separately as accessories.

5. What kind of equipments are required in order to make joip calls?
  • You need a router with an open LAN port, and a broadband (DSL, Cable, Satellite) connection with a modem.

6. How do I know if the GLOBARANGE phone will work with my broadband service, network, router or modem?
  • Your network must meet the following technical specifications for the unit to work with joip:
    (1) Broadband Internet connection such as DSL or cable
    (2) Modem Broadband modem with Ethernet port (USB-only modems are not supported.)
    (3) Broadband router*1*2
    *1 This unit is not compatible with the following:
    - PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet)
    - PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol)
    - L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol)
    If your Internet service provider uses a PPPoE, PPTP, or L2TP connection, a compatible router is required.
    *2 We recommend using a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server.

7. Can you connect the GLOBARANGE phone using a wireless router?
  • If you're using a wireless router, a wireless access point is needed.
    The phone's ethernet cable will plug into it, and the wireless access point will then connect to the router.
    Panasonic also recommends using our HD-PLC technology which lets you send your broadband signals through your AC power wires.

8. Can you still use GLOBARANGE without plugging the phone into a landline?
  • Yes, but if you don't subscribe to one of joip's service plans you can only make free calls to other joip users. If you choose not to plug your phone to a landline we recommend subscribing to one of joip's service plans which will allow you to call landline and cellular numbers for extremely low rates; in most cases these rates are much lower then the regular landline rates. 9. How do you use it?
  • Explain how you can start using it in about three minutes after connecting it to a power outlet and router.

10. I'm using two landlines. Can I simply switch them over?
  • This depends on your service conditions, but you can use one landline and one IP phone line, so you may not really need the second landline.

11. Can joip/GLOBARNGE work with my existing Internet and telephone service?
  • In order to use joip you just need a router or a Modem/Router and a Broadband connection. if you have both a router and an Internet connection, you should be able to use joip free service.

12. Can I use 2 handsets to make different Internet and landline calls at the same time?
  • Yes you can use the Internet and the landlines at the same time for different calls. The 5.8Ghz GLOBARANGE phone supports up to 8 handsets. (US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia).

13. Can I use joip anywhere in the world?
  • You can use joip anywhere in the world. Any user with a GLOBARANGE phone will be able to use his joip service anywhere in the world even when away from the GLOBARANGE phone through joip's SoftPhone or web-joip services. Using the joip line, you can make and receive free calls to and from any other joip number, creating a huge and free communication community.

14. Can I use the joip line to send faxes?
  • It is recommended that you use a landline for sending and receiving faxes.

15. How many handsets can be added?
  • The 5.8-GHz cordless can have up to eight handsets in all. (US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia)
  • The DECT cordless can have up to six handsets in all. (UK, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Austria, Russia, Hong Kong)

16. Can you use a mobile phone line to make or receive calls?
  • You can't use a mobile phone line to make or receive GLOBARANGE calls , but when calling abroad from your mobile phone you can use the joip line by going through your home GLOBARANGE phone. This lets you make the call at very low cost.

17. Can I answer a second call on the other line when I am on a call.
  • Yes, you can put the first call on hold and answer the second call coming in. Each line can have its own ring tone. The handset LCD backlight changes as follows:
    Green - Landline is used/ringing
    Amber - IP Line is used/ringing

18. Does the answering machine have separate answering messages for each line?
  • Yes or you can use one message for both lines if you choose.

19. How do I connect my phone to the internet?
  • Connect the included Ethernet cable to the "LAN" port on the base unit and unused Ethernet (LAN) port on your router or modem with a built-in router.
  • Connect the included telephone line cord until it clicks into the "TEL" port on the base unit and telephone line jack.
  • Connect the included AC adaptor to the base unit by pushing the plug firmly, then plug the other end into the power outlet.
  • Install the battery.
  • Charge the battery.
  • Agree to the joip Terms of use on the handset by pressing [IP] an then press [YES] to agree to it.
  • Now the phone begins to connect to the internet and the status indicator will turn solid green.

20. Can landlines call my joip number?
  • No they must dial your Registered Service number that you were given when you subscribed to joip. To view your Registered Service number press [MENU] then [#][1][0][3] then move the joystick down and the number will be under "Phone number1".

21. Can customers using other VOIP providers call my joip number?
  • No they must dial your Registered Service number that you were given when you subscribed to joip. To view your Registered Service number press [MENU] then [#][1][0][3] then move the joystick down and the number will be under "Phone number1".

22. Do I need a computer to make calls?
  • No, a computer is not required to make calls.

23. Can I delete phonebook entries from my phonebook in my handset using the joip website?
  • No you must manually delete the entries from each handset.

2. What is a joip number?
  • A joip number consists of a # followed by 10 digits, enabling you to make and receive free calls to and from other joip number owners. The joip number does not involve extra charges and is given free to Panasonic GLOBARANGE phone owners for 3 years from the date of setup.

3. Which 12 countries will have GLOBARANGE service?
  • They are the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Spain, Russia, Australia and Hong Kong.

4. Can you still use GLOBARANGE if you're not able to connect to the Internet?
  • if you're not connected to the Internet you will not be able to use your IP line, which , means you cannot enjoy joip's free calls. You can still use your land line but we advise you to connect to the Internet and enjoy the benefit of joip's free calls.

5. What countries will be added on in the future?
  • We have not determined this yet.

6. Where will joip be available?
  • joip service is available worldwide. This means that you can make calls to any destination in the world once subscribing to joip's Service Plans. In addition, when away from the GLOBARANGE phone, users can either download the joip SoftPhone and make calls or use the advanced web-joip feature through joip Member Center.

9. How do I check my MAC address?
  • There is a sticker on the bottom of the phone listing your MAC address.

10. What is a router?
  • A router is a device in computer networking that forwards data packets to their destinations, based on their addresses.

11. What are the differences between making local and long-distance calls?
  • Using joip to joip the calls are free but when its not joip to joip there are different rates depending on where you are calling. To view these different rates please go to www.joip.com for more information.

12. What is the difference between Static IP and DHCP?
  • DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. DHCP is a protocol used by networked computers (clients) to obtain IP addresses and other parameters such as the default gateway, subnet mask, and IP addresses of DNS servers from a DHCP server. A Static IP address is where a computer uses the same address every time a user logs on to a network.
