Panasonic's policy on UD

Based on our UD Policy, six specific elements are stipulated, such as "making operations easily understandable." For the "V Products" that we view as our engine for growth, it is an indispensable prerequisite to introduce the UD concept, but in fact the UD concept is gradually being introduced to all of our products.
To produce UD products, it is important to study human beings in order to identify human characteristics and behaviors. We study what will reduce the stress felt by users and what will make them feel the product is suitable to them. The ultimate goal of universal design is to create a product whose functions can be used with complete control by each consumer according to their needs. It should also be a product that does not generate a digital divide crisis.
The results of our studies of human beings have been incorporated into company-wide UD regulations and design standards, utilized in product planning and design processes, as well as in technology developments that will realize UD functions.

Structure for promoting universal design

At Panasonic, we strive to achieve universal design in our products, instruction manuals, packaging, and catalogues, in line with the six basic elements of our universal design policy. We aim to improve overall satisfaction (usability) in terms of operability, efficiency, comfort, and convenience by adopting the customer's perspective right from the planning and development stage. In fiscal 2005, we launched a new system of collaboration with Matsushita Electric Works, and together we are continuing to made advances in the field of universal design.

At Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., under our policy of adopting Universal Design, the president has directly established the All Panasonic Universal Committee and the Universal Promotion Committee. We have established a system which puts us in the customer' shoes from the planning and development stages to improve our products' general usability.

*note  The development of universal designs is mainly driven by the business domain companies in charge of each product. Supervisors from business domain companies participate in the above sub-committees.
