Immediately after hearing of the fire at the Moriguchi plant, Toshio quickly returned home on November 23, 1947. When he arrived at the site, all that was left was a pile of concrete and ashes. The cause of the fire was an electric leak. In shock and despair, Toshio stood and scanned the wreckage. Feeling a tap on his shoulder, Toshio turned and saw his 76 year old mother. "Try not to be too discouraged," she said. "Many people say that after fire comes prosperity, so cheer up." This was a great comfort to Toshio and he started to feel much better. He started thinking more positively and realized that in many ways he was a very lucky man. No one died, and the fire had not spread. He immediately moved into action, ordered wood for rebuilding and started to clear away the debris. Within a month the plant had been rebuilt. Due to Toshio's resolve and the dedication of his employees, the SANYO Electric Plant survived two major setbacks – the defective brackets of the bicycle lamps and the fire.
