Panasonic is committed to ensuring that your “Personal Data” (as explained below) is used fairly, lawfully, and securely and that your privacy is protected at all times. We place high importance on compliance with the applicable privacy and data protection laws and regulations regarding your personal information, including, but not limited to the European Union (EU) Regulation 2016/679 General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and the China Personal Information Protection Law (“PIPL”).

This Privacy Policy is intended to tell you how we “process” (as explained below) information about you ("Personal Data" as explained below) that you provide to us or that we collect through your use of applications (as explained below) or products with applications (collectively our “Services”), or when you engage with us on otherwise interact with us. It also applies if explicit reference is made to it via link or in a similar manner. Wherever we process your Personal Data and a different privacy policy is required (e.g. for other specific websites or portals), Panasonic will provide a specific privacy policy. This Privacy Policy supplements other privacy policies and is not intended to override them.

This Privacy Policy explains what Personal Data we collect, store, use, disclose and transfer (hereinafter “process”), how we do it, for which purpose and what our legal bases are. It also provides you with information on your rights under applicable privacy and data protection laws and regulations regarding your Personal Data ("Applicable Law") and how you can contact us if want to exercise your rights or have a complaint.

  2. This Privacy Policy is issued by Panasonic Entertainment & Communication Co., Ltd., headquartered in Moriguchi, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.

    In this Privacy Policy, when we refer to “Panasonic”, “we”, “us” or “our”, this means the relevant company/companies (in the case of joint controllers) in the Panasonic Group that is/are responsible for processing your Personal Data. Panasonic Entertainment & Communication Co., Ltd. controls the Personal Data that is collected. Where several Panasonic companies are jointly responsible for the processing of your Personal Data, you can exercise your rights against the company issuing this Privacy Policy.

    By March 31, 2022, some Personal Data acquired by Panasonic Corporation (currently Panasonic Holdings Corporation) will be transferred and handled by Panasonic Entertainment & Communication Co., Ltd., which is newly established from April 1, 2022. Along with this, the controller responsible for handling Personal Data will also be Panasonic Entertainment & Communication Co., Ltd.
  3. What is Personal Data?
  4. For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, "Personal Data" consists of any information about an individual from which that person can, directly or indirectly, be identified. When we combine other information (i.e. information that does not, on its own, identify an individual) with Personal Data, we treat the combined information as Personal Data.
  5. What Personal Data do we collect about you and how?
  6. Depending upon your use of our Services, see Section ‎4 below, Panasonic collects and processes some or all of the Personal Data set out in the table below, using the methods and channels also set out in the table.

    Product/Device/Application Data”: Including your hardware model, device identification number, the MAC address of the device’s network interface and mobile network information, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile browser you use, time zone setting, IP address, operating system details, and other technology on the product or device you use to access the Services. Automated, through our use of technologies set on your product, device or our application.
    Profile and Usage Data”: Including information collected about your use of our Services such as the time and duration of your use of the Service, operations you enter through the Services, settings, and any error information, actions you take, patterns of your usage and information from forms you fill in. Automated, through our use of technologies set on your product, device or our application, if you consented to our usage on beforehand.
    Location Data”: Such as your product or device’s GPS signal or information about nearby WiFi access points and cell towers that may be transmitted to us when you use certain Services. Automated, through our use of technologies set on your product, device or our application.
    However, products or applications DO NOT send any location information to Panasonic in the all services to which this policy applies except for when acquiring location information and using it internally to operate the functions of the products or applications.
    "Contacts information": Contact information registered on your products, devices, or smartphones. Contact information includes names and phone numbers. Automated, through our use of technologies set on your product, device or our application.
    However, products or applications DO NOT send any contacts information to Panasonic in the all services to which this policy applies except for when acquiring contacts information and using it internally to operate the functions of the products or applications.
    "Image information": Live or recorded image information captured by your products, devices, or smartphones. Image information includes video images and still images. Automated, through our use of technologies set on your product, device or our application.
    However, products or applications DO NOT send any image information to Panasonic in the all services to which this policy applies except for when acquiring image information and using it internally to operate the functions of the products or applications.
    "Audio information": Live or recorded audio information recorded by your products, devices, or smartphones. Audio information includes audio information recorded in video images. Automated, through our use of technologies set on your product, device or our application.
    However, products or applications DO NOT send any audio information to Panasonic in the all services to which this policy applies except for when acquiring audio information and using it internally to operate the functions of the products or applications.
    "Device status information": Information about the current status of your product, device or smartphone. Device status information includes information about the call status of the mobile phone. Automated, through our use of technologies set on your product, device or our application.
    However, products or applications DO NOT send any device status information to Panasonic in the all services to which this policy applies except for when acquiring device status information and using it internally to operate the functions of the products or applications.
  7. How do we use your Personal Data (purpose and legal basis)?
  8. We process your Personal Data in the context of the activities and for the purposes set out in the table below and rely on one or more of the following the specified legal bases:
    - Performance of a contract:Where we need to perform a contract which we are about to put in place or have put in place with you as a party, or (at your request) take steps before putting such a contract in place (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR);

    - Legal obligation:Where we need to comply with a legal obligation to which we are subject (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR);

    - Legitimate interests:Where we are acting in our legitimate interests, provided that they are not overridden by your fundamental rights (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We assess our legitimate interests for processing your Personal Data and balance them against any potential impact on you. Where we rely on our legitimate interests you have the right to object to such processing at any time under the conditions set out in the GDPR; for more information on our legitimate interests or our balancing test please contact us by using the communication means set out in Section 13 below;

    - Consent:Where we rely on your consent we will ask for it separately (6(1)(a) GDPR). (However, only Home Network, Panasonic Audio Connect, and Technics Audio Connect applications outside Japan)

    Please note that Panasonic does not base any decision solely on automated processing including profiling that significantly affects you or has legal effects for you (Art. 22 GDPR).

  9. To whom do we disclose your Personal Data?
  10. We will not disclose your Personal Data to third parties for their own independent marketing or business purposes, unless you have given your explicit consent to do so. However, we may have to outsource, share, transfer, and disclose your Personal Data to the following entities for the purposes we collected it as set out in Section 4 relying on the legal bases specified therein:
    1. Panasonic Corporation and Affiliates
      We may need to transfer your Personal Data within the Panasonic Group of Companies to provide the Services you require or any other services/assistance you request. All companies within the Panasonic Group are required to follow the privacy practices set forth in this Privacy Policy, or another privacy policy that they may notify to you and to process your Personal Data in accordance with the applicable privacy and data protection laws and regulations.
    2. Service Providers
      We use third party service providers who provide information technology and system administration services to us and help us to administer certain activities and services on our behalf and they will operate only in accordance with our instructions as data processors. We and third party service providers enter into strict non-disclosure agreements, and require processing of your Personal Data in accordance with our requirements, this Privacy Policy, and all other relevant confidentiality and security measures.
      The service providers currently in use are Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and FUJITSU Hybrid IT Service Fjcloud-O.
    3. Third parties when required by Law or to Protect our Business and Services
      We will disclose your Personal Data to comply with applicable law or respond to valid legal process, including from law enforcement or other government agencies; to protect our customers (e.g. to attempts to defraud users of our Services); to operate and maintain the security of our Services (e.g. to prevent or stop an attack on our systems or networks); to protect the health and safety of our colleagues and others with whom we have contact; or to protect the rights or property of Panasonic, including enforcing any terms or agreements governing the use of our Services.
    4. Other Parties in Connection With Corporate Transactions
      We may disclose your Personal Data to a third party or within the Panasonic Group of Companies as part of a reorganisation, merger, transfer, sale, joint venture, assignment or other disposition of all or any portion of Panasonic's business, assets or stock, including, without limitation, in connection with any bankruptcy or similar proceeding. In this case, when it comes to the disclosure of your Personal Data, we will request the new entities that hold your Personal Data to continue to be bound by this Privacy Policy.
    5. Other Parties With Your Consent or At Your Direction
      We may share Personal Data about you with third parties when you consent to or request such sharing.
  11. What do we do to keep your Personal Data secure?
  12. The security of your Personal Data is of greatest importance to Panasonic. We have put in place a range of appropriate physical and technical measures as well as robust policies and processes. The purpose thereof is to safeguard your Personal Data and to protect it against accidental or unlawful destruction or alteration, accidental loss, unauthorized disclosure or access and against other unlawful forms of processing. These measures take into account the state of the art of the technology, the costs of its implementation, the nature of the Personal Data, and the risk of the processing.

    All information we collect, including Personal Data, is encrypted on the communication path using Secured Sockets Layer technology when transmitted and stored on our secure servers.

    Information security, including the protection of Personal Data is organized in a global Panasonic Program called Information Security Management (“ISM”). The related aim, standards and implementation measures are organized in a globally valid Policy, and further standards and guidelines. The program and all its parts follow a strong yearly Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach to secure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all data (including your Personal Data) for the whole information lifecycle from collection to destruction of such information.

    We also regularly update the contents of reports such as security risk and personal information safety impact assessments.

    In addition, in the unfortunate case of a Personal Data security incident, we will comply with the requirements of laws and regulations, and will notify you without delay the basic circumstances and possible impact of the security incident, countermeasures that we have already taken or will take, proposals that enable you to protect yourself from and reduce risk, and available remedial actions. We will notify you of information related to the incident without delay by methods such as email, and push notification. If notifying each Personal Data subject individually is difficult, we will issue a public notice in a rational and effective manner. At the same time, we will comply with the requirements of the supervisory management department, and will report on the handling status of the Personal Data security incident.

    However, please note that although we take appropriate steps to protect your Personal Data, no website, product, device, online application or transmission of data, computer system or wireless connection is completely secure and therefore we cannot guarantee the security of your Personal Data.
  13. Accessing your Personal Data and other rights you have
  14. What are your rights?

    Your rights under the Applicable Law include, the right to be informed, the right to access a copy of your Personal Data, the right to request the rectification or the update of any inaccurate Personal Data we hold, and the right to request erasure of your Personal Data.

    You also have the right to obtain restriction of the processing of your Personal Data, the right to object to the processing of your Personal Data at any time under the conditions set out in the Applicable Law, and the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing.

    In addition, you have the right to data portability in certain cases. This is the right to request the return of the personal data you have provided to us in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and to request the transmission of such personal data to a third party, without hindrance from us and subject to your own confidentiality obligations.

    You also have the right to not provide consent and, where you have consented to our processing of your Personal Data, you have the right to withdraw such consent at any time without this withdrawal affecting the lawfulness of the processing prior to such withdrawal.

    Your rights are further specified in Art. 7 and Chapter 3 of the GDPR and other applicable data protection legislation.
    Your rights related to Marketing Communication

    Where permitted under applicable law, we process your Identity Data, Marketing and Communications Data, Product/Device/Application Data and Profile and Usage Data for marketing communication purposes to send you correspondence by email and/or text message related to Panasonic products, devices and other Services in accordance with your marketing preferences.

    You have the right to object to the processing of your Personal Data for these purposes. If you object and request us to stop processing your Personal Data for marketing purposes, we shall stop processing your Personal Data for those purposes.

    You also may opt-out from receiving electronic communications from us. If you don’t want to receive marketing communication from Panasonic, set so you will not receive notifications on the setting screen of the product/device/application.
    Exercising your rights

    If you wish to exercise any of the above rights, then please contact us by using the communication means set out in Section 13 below.

    We will respond to your request without undue delay and no later than 30 days from receipt of any such request, unless a longer period is permitted by applicable data protection laws. Please note that we will only charge a fee where we are permitted to do so by applicable data protection laws.
    Opt out

    In addition to the above, you may opt out of the collection and processing of Personal Data described in section 3 above by doing the following on your product and/or application.

    - Reset to factory default
    - Uninstall the application
    - Withdraw agreement to this Privacy Policy
    The operations that can be performed differ depending on the product or application. For details, refer to the instructions in the operation manual for your product or application.

The Personal Data that we collect from you may be stored and processed in your region, or transferred to, stored at or otherwise processed outside your region, including but not limited to Japan and USA or in any other country which do not offer an adequate level of data protection as recognised by the European Commission and where Panasonic or its Affiliates, subsidiaries or service providers maintain facilities. The specific countries and regions of transfer in this Service are Japan, USA, and Europe. The data recipients (service providers) in each country are described in Section 5.II of this Privacy Policy. The purpose of processing Personal Data, the method of processing Personal Data, and the types of Personal Data collected at transfer destinations are also as described in this Privacy Policy.

    Where we transfer your Personal Data outside your region, we will ensure that suitable safeguards such as appropriate transfer agreements and mechanisms are in place to help ensure that our third party service providers provide an adequate level of protection to your Personal Data. You may request additional information in this respect and obtain a copy of the relevant safeguards upon request through sending a request to the contact indicated in section 13 below.

  17. Data Retention – How long we will retain your Personal Data?
  18. We will only retain your Personal Data for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it has been collected (Up to 10 years after acquisition). This includes the purposes of fulfilling our contract with you, satisfying any legal, regulatory, accounting, reporting obligation we are subject to and the establishment and defence of legal claims.
  19. Third-party links and products on our Services
  20. Our websites, applications and products may contain links to third party websites, plug-ins and applications. These linked websites and applications are not under Panasonic's control and we are not responsible for their privacy practices or the content of any linked websites and applications. If you choose to use any third party website or application, Personal Data collected by the third party’s website or application will be controlled by the privacy policy of that third party. We strongly recommend that you take the time to review the privacy policies of any third parties to which you provide Personal Data.
  21. Children's Personal Data
    1. Who is a child?
      We consider a child to by anyone under the age of 16, or such younger age as may be specified by applicable data protection laws.
    2. Do we collect Personal Data from children?
      We do not knowingly collect or try to collect Personal Data from or about children without the consent of a parent or guardian. Where we do collect Personal Data from children, we will always use reasonable efforts to verify that consent has been given or authorised by the child's parent or guardian.
    3. What do we do when children submit Personal Data to us?
      If we become aware that Personal Data submitted to us relates to a child without the consent of a parent or guardian, we will use reasonable efforts to:
      • delete that Personal Data as soon as possible; or
      • if deletion is not possible, we will ensure that this Personal Data is not used for any purpose, nor disclosed to any third party.

      If you are a parent or guardian and you have queries regarding our processing of your child's Personal Data, please contact us using the details provided in Section 13.

  23. It also is important that you check back often for updates to the Privacy Policy, as we may change it from time to time. The “Date last updated” Section at the top of this page states when this Privacy Policy was last updated and any changes will become effective upon our posting of the revised Privacy Policy.

    We will provide additional notice to you if these changes are material by adding a statement to this website or by sending you a notification through any relevant Services or email. Where required by applicable law, we will request your consent to any such changes.

For the purposes of this CCPA Appendix, "Personal Data" means information that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household.     We will confirm receipt of your requests to exercise your rights within 10 business days in the same manner in which the request was received and provide information about how we will process the request and the limit of our response. We will respond to requests to know, requests to delete and requests to correct within 45 days, and if we exceed the period, we will notify you and respond within 90 days from the day that we receive the requests. If we cannot verify your requests within the 45-day time period, we may not process your requests.
    We will record your requests and store them for 24 months.
    If you use an authorized agent to submit a request to know or a request to delete, the authorized agent is required to submit to us a written permission proving the authorized agent is permitted to do so and the authorized agent’s own identity verification document(s).
