Why Choose Panasonic?
  • - The Dynamic Iris system helps to reproduce deeper and richer blacks for realistic night simulation.
  • - The Multi-Screen Support System (Edge Blending / Color Matching) enables seamlessly edge-blended dynamic projection.
  • - The built-in Geometric Adjustment makes initial lineup and warping very easy and relatively quick.
  • - Uniformity Control and Line Masking functions in Geometry Manager Pro software achieve smooth, full-scale projection with multiple-unit mirror reflection.
  • - Filter-less and dust-resistant design enables easy maintenance and contributes to the low TCO.
  • - Cost-effective compared to conventional projector in the same class.

It feels as if you were on a real ship.
‒The Svendborg International Maritime Academy (SIMAC) has upgraded its ship bridge simulator.
Panasonic’s new 1-Chip DLP™ projectors revitalized the latest virtual graphics technology and contributed to this leading-edge ship bridge simulation system.

Denmark's largest maritime educational institution

With 500 students and 90 highly educated and motivated employees, SIMAC is Denmark’s largest maritime
educational institution. SIMAC offers study programs regarding the shipmaster and marine engineer field to provide
access to a wide range of jobs in the global shipping industry. The academy offers courses within SIMAC’s entire
range of expertise, focusing on training in automation as well as bridge and engine-room simulation.

Kongsberg delivers the training software

The ship bridge simulator software is delivered by Kongsberg Maritime, a leading provider/system integrator of training simulators. Previous ship bridge simulators had used XGA short-throw projectors, and the new projection system features seven PT-DZ870 WUXGA 1 chip DLP projectors to increase resolution, color and improve setup ease.

The ship bridge simulator software is used to train students on how to operate large merchant vessels, and a realistic image is very important to the effectiveness of the simulator. The academy wanted to increase both picture quality and brightness to take advantage of the simulating software.

This application required not only high brightness and picture quality, the structure also demanded a level of performance that would enable large-screen projection from a short distance and projection onto non-flat screens.

Panasonic’s 1-Chip DLP™ projector surpassed the integrator’s expectations

Panasonic’s PT-DZ870 1-Chip DLP™ projector boasts 8,500 lm of brightness and features superb picture quality and advanced functions comparable to 3-Chip DLP™ projectors.

The PT-DZ870 has improved color saturation and black level control capability. Panasonic’s color control technology provides images with color fidelity and brings reality to the content. The Dynamic Iris system helps to reproduce deeper and richer blacks for night or darkly lit scenes. The high contrast ratio of 10,000 :1 also enables crisp, clear night scenes without blocked shadows.

The new simulation system was a highly challenging installation: full-scale projection onto 240°curved screen with a short throw distance. The PT-DZ870 offers a wide lineup of optional lenses for virtually every application. The ET-DLE085 short-throw zoom lens and mirror reflection allow large-screen projection from a short distance. To accommodate the application, the wide vertical lens shift doesn't block the axis reflected from the mirror.

A high contrast ratio of 10,000:1 realized realistic images for night training.

As with many of Panasonic’s 3-Chip DLP™ projectors, the PT-DZ870 features advanced functions for multiple projection.
The Geometry Adjustment function adjusts images for projection onto specially shaped screens, making it possible to
project onto non-flat screens, and the Multi-Screen Support System (Edge Blending/Color Matching) enables seamlessly
edge-blended dynamic projection. In addition, Uniformity Control and Line Masking functions in Geometry Manager Pro software
achieve smooth, full-scale projection with multiple-unit mirror reflection.

Mounting the ET-DLE085 and using mirror reflection
provide large-screen projection from a short distance.

The Geometry Adjustment function and the Multi-Screen Support System enable full-scale projection onto a 240° curved screen.

The ability to use the system for long periods with high stability was a crucial element for the academy. Purposely using it
in the Eco mode reduces brightness and lengthens the operating life. Also, Multi-Unit Brightness Control automatically
corrects the seven projectors’ brightness fluctuations that occur over time in the individual projectors, and keeps the
screen images from the multiple projectors highly uniform during the 4,000-hour lamp replacement cycle.

Empowering the latest ship bridge system with a highly realistic sensation

Bringing graphic images to life, the leading-edge ship bridge simulator offers realistic training and meets all of the
training requirements. Cutting-edge technology has enabled Denmark’s largest maritime educational institution to
configure a facility that matches its high-level curriculum, providing powerful support for training its shipmaster candidates.
