Panasonic Creates World’s Biggest Water Screen in Dubai
Panasonic, in partnership with Al-Futtaim Panatech and the show's creators Laservision, brought an incredible record-breaking water screen display to Dubai Festival City in December 2016.
Dubai Festival City is a growing resort precinct near Dubai International Airport that serves as a staging point for spectacular event showcases.
The waterside arena needed vast, eye-catching, and engaging visuals to enhance the event environment and attract crowds to Dubai Festival City.
Working with its clients Dubai Festival City (DFC), Panasonic’s installed more than 60 of its range-topping PT-DZ21K2E 20,000-lumen quad-lamp projectors to map vast and brilliant images onto adjacent hotel walls. A further 12 units were deployed for the water screen installation at the bayside venue.
Guinness World Records verified the fountain display at Dubai Festival City as the world’s largest water-screen projection. This achievement adds to the many records earned by Panasonic’s PT-DZ21K2E model over the last 12 months.
Why Choose Panasonic?
Maximum 20,000 lm brightness for large events
Compact and lightweight body for installation and logistical flexibility
Highly reliable quad-lamp switching system for lower TCO
Fully equipped for large-scale multi-mapping applications
Excellent economy in both rental staging and permanent installations
Technology Turns Any Surface into a Work of Art
While illuminating water is nothing new, projecting moving images onto fine mists is a challenge that calls for innovation and imagination. Panasonic technologies made images screened through semi-liquid surfaces impressively clear and realistic. Rows of precisely aligned PT-DZ21K2Es brought mapped visuals to life. The Dubai Festival City show rivals other popular waterfront shows worldwide.
A total of 12 quad-lamp PT-DZ21K2Es were used across six water screens to create a single, seamless screen surface 36 meters wide and 13 meters high. At the water screen launch event, the projectors streamed 360-degree multimedia visuals in tandem with live-performance elements themed “Fire. Water. Light. Awe.” Dancers and acrobats were projected onto hotel walls in crisp 3D by 60 units delivering 20,000 lumens of brightness from a maximum distance of 320 meters.
Powerful Projections Show the Best Japanese Technology
DFC and Panasonic selected the 3-Chip DLP™ PT-DZ21K2E quad-lamp projector, a model delivering a maximum 20,000 lumens, for its outstanding imaging prowess, long-term reliability, and efficiency. It’s also universally compatible with professional sound systems and LED Lighting. Sharp, high-quality
transmissions make the projector perfect for large-scale events.
The technology behind the PT-DZ21K2E projector was proven in 2015 and 2016 at Moscow International “Circle Of Light” Festival. During the 2016 festival,
a 50,458 square-meter multi-screen image projection set a Guinness World Record.
During the Olympic Games Rio 2016, more than 110 Panasonic PT-DZ21K2E projectors helped facilitate high-quality visuals throughout the Opening Ceremony. Panasonic visual systems have been closely associated with the Olympic Games and other major global events for decades.
The projection system at Dubai Festival City remains in daily use with full capabilities unleashed when events are staged within the precinct.

“When you look at the positioning of Dubai Festival City, right there on the water, it was natural to do something with water. So, we were looking at something that was water-based, and we wanted it to be something particularly special.
“I think what we would expect from Panasonic is to continue to bring us the latest innovations. Panasonic is recognized as a world leader in that field.”

“Dubai itself is a very challenging market. They’re always expecting the latest, and greatest, and biggest, and what we’ve done here is deliver on something that’s truly spectacular.
“The reason we chose the Panasonic projector was because we have a lot of history with Panasonic. We’ve used them in the past on other installations, on a permanent basis. They’re a nice, compact, lightweight, reliable solution.
“Panasonic projectors have been fantastic. We’re very happy with Panasonic projectors, and we’ll be looking to use them in future installations.”
