Images into sound
Remixing eras of design and technology.
Reviving entertainment of the past with open creation that connects us to the future.
Redesigning the SUPER PHONIC
Originally designed in the 1960s, the SUPER PHONIC HE-3000 was built from wood and housed the
highest end speaker and amplifier technology of the time. It would have been the centerpiece of
home entertainment for listening to music.
With Remix, we have modified the original design so now we can program and create our own music.

SUPER PHONIC HE-3000 [1962] was located in a warehouse with a missing turntable

Original amplifier and vacuum tubes found in working condition
It all started with an encounter with a stereo that was lying in a corner of a warehouse. The dignified appearance of the stereo stimulated the imagination of our designers. A furniture like stereo from the early 1960s, found with the record player missing. However, the construction was robust and to our surprise it sounded good.
Taking apart this radio inspired a conversation with engineers of the past. Where we see a world where everything is digitalized, they were creating physical interaction through pulleys and levers. We saw the value of creating with the hand and began to question where digital and physical intersect.

Hand drawings are orchestrated into pitches and instruments resulting into a unique piece of music.
What if your picture could play music?
Bringing this stereo into modern times resulted in turning something that used to be listened to into something that can be played. Hand drawings are orchestrated into pitches and instruments resulting into a unique piece of music. An original array of color sensors and programming allow anyone to draw a piece of music.
