The electronics manufacturer office in Japan, first to be pre-certified with “WELL v2 certification”.

Panasonic is the first domestic electronics manufacturer in the Kansai region(*1) to obtain a preliminary approval for the WELL v2 certification.

The WELL certification is a space evaluation system that aims to create better living environments by taking into consideration the people’s mental and physical wellbeing in the design, construction and operation of a space. It was developed by Delos headquartered in the United States and was launched in 2014 by IWBI (International WELL Building Institute). In 2018, an second version, WELL v2 with updated evaluation points and standards was released. In addition to Innovation, the 10 concepts evaluated in WELL v2 are: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind, and Community(*2).

The “WELL v2” preliminary certification was obtained by the Panasonic Life Solutions Company Solution Development Division System Solutions Development Center located in Kadoma, Osaka. This office was renovated in 2018 as a place to demonstrate the technologies and solutions developed at the Technical Headquarters. Having in mind a WELL idea that not all people who work in the same environment necessarily feel equally comfortable, environmental zoning based on Air, Light, and Sound was established. This enabled the employees to choose a work environment such as the “Focus Zone”, “Natural Zone, and “Relax Zone”, based on their nature of work and personal preferences.

For each working zone, Panasonic products and technologies including ERV (energy recovery ventilator), outside air processing air conditioners, light dimming and toning equipment were applied to support the five concepts of Air, Thermal Comfort, Light, Mind, and Sound. Also, to address the added WELL evaluation point of Innovation, a space sterilization deodorizer was proposed as a sterilization solution. Acquiring certification on the 5 concepts resulted to receiving the WELL v2 preliminary certification.

The office was able to go from a traditional standard office layout to a zoning office based on the concepts of WELL that has the ability to respond to changes in society and work styles.
As a result of conducting a questionnaire to our employees, over 80% of employees responded that they achieved above average satisfaction towards their working environment.
