Warm light envelops the enchanting hamlet of thatched houses.

The light quality of ancient times, recreated with LED

With these lights in the windows of
snow-covered Gassho-zukuri houses
(with steeply pitched, thatched roofs), the scene is even more enchanting.

Panasonic replaced a total of 649 light bulbs with LED in homes, businesses, and facilities in the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama.

LEDs are environmentally friendly and contribute to the fight against climate change

The Gassho-zukuri building style reflects the wisdom of people living in snow country. Here, warm light illuminates the underside of a thatched house roof.

The village of Shirakawa-go has been taking active steps to protect its natural environment and preserve its timeless landscape for posterity. The replacement of light bulbs with LED reduces CO2 emissions, and contributes to the effort to curtail climate change.
