“Illuminating Local Identity: Sustaining the Heartbeat of Lamongan at Surajaya Stadium”
Surajaya Stadium in Lamongan, East Java, is deeply woven into the daily rhythm of its community. As the home of Persela Lamongan, the stadium is known not only as a venue for football matches but also as a place where local identity, loyalty, and shared excitement come together on matchdays. With its compact scale and the close connection between the pitch and the stands, Surajaya creates an atmosphere defined by proximity, sound, and collective energy.
As evening matches and public events have become an increasingly important part of the stadium’s calendar, lighting has emerged as a critical factor in sustaining that atmosphere after sunset. The challenge is not only to illuminate the pitch but also to preserve the intensity and clarity of the match environment while ensuring comfort for players, officials, and spectators alike.
To support professional-level competition, the lighting system was designed in accordance with FIFA’s recommendations to achieve an average horizontal illuminance of 1,500 lx. The design emphasized maintaining uniform visual conditions across the pitch, ensuring that the pace of play and players’ movements remain clearly visible throughout the match.
The lighting installation comprises 160 Panasonic LED sports floodlights, delivering high output and 5700 K CCT suitable for competitive football.
Beyond the pitch, 63 high-bay luminaires illuminate the stands, enhancing the sense of engagement between the crowd and the game.
Panasonic streetlights around the stadium further enhance the matchday experience, safely guiding visitors to and from the venue on event nights.
With the introduction of a carefully designed lighting system, Surajaya Lamongan Stadium continues to serve as a lively focal point for football and community life. Panasonic supported the project with lighting calculations and integrated solutions, helping create an environment where matchday energy, visual clarity, and international-level performance converge—all within a setting that remains unmistakably local.
