Lighting optimized for 4K/8K broadcasting provides a new form of entertainment.

Ajinomoto Stadium features both a spectacular natural grass playing field and an artificial grass field where a diverse range of events are held. With a capacity of around 50,000 spectators, this stadium is used for multiple purposes and hosts not only soccer and rugby matches and track-and-field events but also concerts. In November 2019, the stadium’s lighting facilities were completely upgraded to ensure that the facilities fulfilled the lighting performance requirements for international tournaments that are scheduled to be held at Ajinomoto Stadium in the future. To enable delivery of images optimized for 4K/8K broadcasting, some 864 Stadium Beam (equivalent to HID2000 model) floodlights have been installed. Special care has also been taken with vertical illuminance, which is important for camera recording. For example, a uniformity ratio of illumination (minimum/maximum) of 0.7 or higher has been achieved for soccer matches, making it possible to film from all directions. Light with average color rendering indexes of CRI:90 and R9:80 contribute to clear and realistic image expression. Light dimming methods compatible with DMX signal controls are used, which enable the gorgeous displays that enhance the entertainment value. Furthermore, LED distribution design technology makes it possible to switch the lighting patterns illuminating each sporting area according to the sport being played—for example, international tournament patterns for soccer and rugby, and track-and-field patterns that illuminate athletes’ bodies and the entire track-and-field competition area. Upgrading of the lighting facilities is adding new value to the live entertainment space that is the stadium.

Some 864 LED floodlights optimized for next-generation broadcasting contribute to beautiful image expression, enhancing the stadium’s entertainment value.
Lighting patterns can be changed according to the sport being played at that time. Instant-start lighting and LED 0% to 100% seamless continuous dimming, which can only be achieved with LED lights, has been realized.
Glare is reduced from an athlete’s perspective through independent simulations using VR.
Special care has also been taken with vertical illuminance, facilitating camera recording from all directions.
