“Illuminating a Stadium Set Within Nature: Precision Lighting Aligned with International Standards in BJ. Habibie Stadium in Parepare”

Gelora B.J. Habibie Stadium in Parepare, South Sulawesi, serves as the home ground for both Persipare Parepare and PSM Makassar and plays an important role in supporting professional football in the region. Following the completion of a comprehensive renovation in early 2025, the stadium has been upgraded to meet FIFA’s recommendations and is now ready to host Liga 1 matches, strengthening its position as a modern sports and entertainment venue.
As part of the renovation, the lighting system was identified as a key element in ensuring high-quality match conditions. Stadium lighting must provide clear visibility for players and officials while creating a comfortable viewing environment for spectators and meeting broadcast requirements. Achieving these objectives required a lighting solution that could provide sufficient illuminance and ensure consistent performance across the entire pitch.

To meet FIFA’s recommendations, simulation-based lighting calculations were performed to achieve an average horizontal illuminance of 1,500 lx. The design prioritized balanced light distribution and visual comfort, ensuring uniform illuminance across the pitch while minimizing glare that could affect gameplay and match operations.

The solution uses 136 Panasonic LED sports floodlights delivering high lumen output and precise optical control. Designed for outdoor stadium applications, these luminaires provide stable, high-quality white light suitable for competitive matches and broadcast, enabled by DMX-compatible LED drivers and custom mounting brackets that allow accurate aiming and operational flexibility.
With the upgraded lighting system in place, the stadium is now equipped to host professional matches with improved visual clarity and an enhanced spectator experience.
Panasonic supported the project with lighting calculations and system solutions, contributing to the development of Indonesia’s football infrastructure and ensuring that Gelora B.J. Habibie Stadium is prepared to meet international standards now and into the future.
