As of April 1, 2026, we became Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd.On the occasion of our museum activities, artist Katsuhiko Hibino created our company logo.The logo is based on the motif of circuit diagrams from our core electrical equipment business and hand-drawn expressions of artistic and cultural activities.

History

1918
Panasonic’s history began with a single wiring device, the attachment plug.
Here we introduce the history of Electric Works Company, which spans more than a century to the present day.
1918
Konosuke Matsushita founded Matsushita Electric Appliance Works and began manufacturing and selling wiring devices.
1935
The company was reorganized as “Matsushita Electric Works, Ltd.,” producing and selling wiring devices, synthetic resins, and metal conduits.
1945
「The company name was changed to “Matsushita Electric Works Co., Ltd.”
1978
Following a top-level meeting between founder Konosuke Matsushita and a major gas company, joint development of gas microcomputer meters began.
1987
Established Thai Matsushita Electric Works Steel Co., Ltd. (now Panasonic SPT Thailand Co., Ltd.), a manufacturer of metal conduits in Thailand.
1990
Established Asia Pacific Matsushita Electric Works Pte. Ltd. in Singapore as a sales company.
2001
Launched the “Fuel Cell Commercialization Project.”
2004
Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. acquired additional shares of Matsushita Electric Works through a tender offer, making it a subsidiary and initiating a comprehensive collaboration framework.
2007
Acquired Anchor Electricals Pvt. Ltd., the base for its electrical equipment business in India (became a wholly owned subsidiary in 2009).
2008
Renamed “Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd.” and unified the brand under Panasonic. Began overseas market expansion of gas meter devices.
2009
Started mass production of “ENE-FARM,” the world’s first residential fuel cell system, at the Kusatsu Factory.
2010
Jointly developed residential fuel cell systems for the European market with the Viessmann Group.
2011
Panasonic Corporation (now Panasonic Holdings Corporation) made Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. and SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. wholly owned subsidiaries.
2012
Established the in-house company “Eco Solutions Company,” responsible for electrical equipment and housing equipment and building materials businesses.
2014
Acquired ViKO, a Turkish manufacturer of wiring devices. Established Panasonic Eco Solutions Vietnam Co., Ltd. (now Panasonic Electric Works Vietnam Co., Ltd.).
2016
Transferred SANYO Electric Co., Ltd.’s solar business to the Eco Solutions Company.
2017
Renamed ViKO to “Panasonic Eco Solutions Turkey” (now Panasonic Electric Works Turkey) and made it a wholly owned subsidiary.
2019
Changed the company name to “Life Solutions Company.” Renamed "Anchor Electricals Pvt. Ltd.  to “Panasonic Life Solutions India Private Limited” (now Panasonic Electric Works India).
2021
Established Electric Works Company as an internal company responsible for the electrical equipment business within Panasonic Corporation’s Living Appliances and Solutions Company (now Panasonic Holdings Corporation).
2022
The Panasonic Group transitioned to an operating company system. The Living Appliances and Solutions Company succeeded the trade name of Panasonic Corporation as an operating company under Panasonic Holdings Corporation, and Electric Works Company became an internal company of Panasonic Corporation.
April 1, 2026
Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. was established.
